Turmeric: One of the Best Natural Beauty Products

The Use of Turmeric in Natural Beauty Preparations

Dueep Jyot Singh
Turmeric is well known through the ages as a necessary spice to add colour and versimilitude to an otherwise bland narrative of Eastern cuisine, but it is also known as one of the most effective and useful ingredients in natural beauty recipes.

Turmeric is a very powerful antifungal as well as cosmetic product. I remember an incident when a beauty treatment went bad, and burnt the skin of a cousin. Thanks to a turmeric and milk cream paste applied upon her back by her mother every evening, within 20 days, she was ready to turn her back upon the world again!

Turmeric is used as the skin softener in Asia. It is made into a paste with milk cream, sandalwood powder and Rosewater and then applied all over the body. In fact, it is an integral part of every marriage ceremony in India, when every bride and groom is subjected to this treatment. This is done by the groom's family members for the bride and vice versa. This must have been done to see if there were any blemishes, disfigurations or even any moles placed in unlucky positions of the body!

How to use turmeric paste effectively.

Turmeric has a tendency to stain clothes , so, in India, ladies normally scrub their whole body with turmeric and cream paste, in the bathroom. And so do men, though they do not want to have this supposedly feminine pursuit well known.

I have found an aluminum foil tucked around my collar to be quite a deterrent to turmeric stains when I use it liberally upon my hands, face and neck. This paste is then allowed to dry and then scrubbed off slowly with warm water, to leave a lovely, soft and glowing skin.

You will also never suffer from any skin problems, if you use turmeric paste regularly. Pimples can be removed without leaving any marks by dabbing turmeric paste made up with sugar and water .

Facial hair can be removed effectively by making a paste of turmeric and sugar and applying it all over the hair. Leave it on for a couple of hours and then scrub gently. A regular application of this paste discourages hair growth naturally.

What should you do if you find turmeric stains upon your clothes?

The easiest way to remove turmeric stains from your clothes is to rub it with lemon juice and leave it out in the sun. This bleaches out the turmeric. I also tried rubbing it with salt , because salt and the sun are the best bleaching agents ever known. But it still left a little stain. Lemon is best . Do not use soap upon it, because that turns the stain red.

I have been using turmeric for a few days now on my face and arms for hair inhibiting and the bonus of tight and smooth skin and it shows! The hair inhibitor part isn't showing yet but I've heard it takes awhile for that. IN the meantime, it looks great. One problem I have is I'm blonde and light complexion, so the turmeric left a stain like a highlighting marker. That yellow stain would stay for days and was a nightmare before I figured out how to take it off. One tip I found that you might use is that my facewash worked a lot better than soap to take it off. I use Mary Kay products. Mary Kay
