Turn Your Backyard into a Play Area for Your Kids

Ryanick Paige
As parents, we like to keep our children close to us and always in our line of sight. With the warmer weather upon us, trying to keep our kids where we can see them is not always easy. One of the best ways to keep you children happy and in their own yard is by creating their own personal playground so that they will not want to go anywhere else. Here are some great ideas for toys to keep your children entertained and happy in their own yard.

A trampoline with a safety enclosure will provide endless fun for your children. I know many parents are against trampolines because of the safety issue. However, the safety enclosure has kept my two active and rambunctious boys safe. Another great thing about the trampoline is the amount of exercise it provides for the kids. They are up there having a great time and bouncing around without even realizing that it is actually good for them.

A basic swing set with a sliding board is a must for all great play areas. I say a basic swing set because the swings and slides are used more often than any addition. A basic swing set is also easier to move around if necessary. Spending the extra money on a quality basic swing set will last almost forever. The wooden swing set that I have has been around for 20 years and still have numerous years left.

A playhouse is a great addition to any children's play area. Whether you have boys or girls, a playhouse will provide hours of fun. It can be one that you have made your self or one that is bought; the kids really will not care. The girls will decorate it to suit their needs for playing house and serving tea. The boys will use it as a fort or hiding spot for their favorite games.

In the hot summer months a water feature will keep your children blissfully cool in the blazing heat. A small child's swimming pool, a slip and slide, or just a simple sprinkle can bring hours of fun to your children. All kids like water. Mine prefer the small swimming pool where they can just get in and splash. I keep a small bucket of water outside of the pool so they can wash their feet off before getting in. Generally, about once a week I empty and refill the pool with clean water. The swimming pool is also easier on my water bill than the sprinklers.

These are just some of the things I use to keep my kids happy and in their own yards through out the nice months of the year. I hope this tips and ideas work for you.
