Turn Your Business from Grey to Green

Roger C.
The buzz about environmental awareness, clean energy and global warming has been growing exponentially in the past few years. One of the reasons is that the effects are beginning to be more noticeable in the form of climate change, floods and hurricanes and the good thing is that many businesses have become aware of this and are getting greener. Public perception towards green businesses is also favorable, so having a green business yourself will tell your customer base you are responsible and proactive toward the future.

In order to turn more green you don't have to invest a lot of money in solar panels and a wind farm (although that will be a great long-term investment) ; you can make small changes and implement simple practices that can do their bit to help the environment without having to invest a lot of money or radically change the way you do things.

Practices such as cutting down your energy consumption by turning off lights, computers or any equipment that is not being used or using recycled paper and recycling the paper you use are small details that might not seem like much, but when they are applied by many businesses have a positively outstanding effect in the planet; plus, those practices even save you money.

More things you can do to go greener are: printing only the necessary. Avoid printing anything that you can have in your computer and don't need a hard copy of. Only make sure you backup your data in additional storage devices to avoid lost documents. Also make sure to have recycling bins all around the workplace and make sure your employees throw everything in their respective bins so you can then send someone to take them to the recycling center closer to your area.

Technology is another important factor that will help you out. With the use of your computer you can meet with clients or people within your company but in different locations vie a videoconference. This will save you time, money, and will prevent fuels to be burned for your transportation. Having a person to take control of the environmental practices going on in your business is a great way to improve the efficacy, efficiency, and will give you time to concentrate in other projects.

The above are some of the simplest ways to make your business greener. If you want to take it to the next level you can invest in a wind or solar system for your energy. It will not only be better for the environment, but it will also lower or even eliminate or surpass your energy consumption. If you produce more than you use, your energy company will pay you the exceeding energy.
