Paint. Start with some color! Disney has their own brand of paints where you can get the exact red of Mickey's pants, the alien green from Buzz Lightyear or the perfect blue of Cinderella's dress. Pick a few colors for your theme choice and coordinate different walls for a great contrast that will perk up the room. Want to get a little more creative? Split the room in half with the bottom in one color, the top in another with a Disney border either stamped or from wallpaper separating the two. Or invest in some blackboard paint and add a large shape in your theme on the wall. A Mickey icon head is perfect for a room featuring the main mouse. A crown would be idea in a princess room, and a spaceship adds a galactic touch for Buzz Lightyear. A bonus? Your child can draw and write, right on the wall with chalk!
Wall Coverings. Wall coverings are the easiest way to add a Disney mural touch to your child's walls without having to hire a professional artist or be one yourself. These wall coverings are self sticking and can be peeled off and applied to the walls and door to add the perfect character touch. Create a scene, use as a border, or simply scatter across the wall for a colorful element of your child's favorite movies.
Lighting. Disney lamps are available at many home improvement stores, department stores and from Disneyshopping.com and add an often whimsical look to the Disney room. From nurseries to pre teens, these lamps come in nearly every character and are a must have for the Disney room!
The "Software". Comforter sets sporting your child's favorite characters can really center the room and bring out the theme, literally enveloping your child in their Disney dreams. Coordinating curtains with either a print or a solid color also pull the theme through the room on the windows. Rugs will add a polished touch as well. Even if you can't find a rug with the character on it, a coordinating color or pattern will really pull your look together.
The "Hardware". Disney is known for their attention to detail, and here is where your own detail can really pop. Changing out drawer pulls and closet handles for Disney themed hardware can add that little element of surprise. Light switches and electrical outlets also come in Disney themes. Pick out some wooden letters or designs, cover them in Disney paint and add to your child's headboard and shelving units for more little details that create that overall feel.
Spend a little time checking out websites like homedepot.com, target, com and disneyshopping.com to get you started on your own ideas to transform your child's bedroom into a Disney retreat! It doesn't take a lot of time or a lot of experience to make their Disney dreams come true in their own personal space!
