Boutique children's clothes are one of a kind items, usually made by seamstresses, especially for children. They usually have bold patterns or designs. Parents purchase these items for their kids for special occasions, children's pageants, or just because they can. Yes, boutique clothing for children are typically expensive. If you want the boutique look for your children's clothes, but don't want to pay the high cost, use these tips to create your own boutique children's clothes.
Purchase clothes from your favorite children's clothes store. They should be well made and of good quality. Also purchase assorted fur pieces, ribbons, patches, and other clothing trims that catch your eye. If you see fabric yardage that you really like, go ahead and buy a few yards of that. You can cut it into trims and patches for your boutique clothing items.
Start with an easy item for your first boutique clothing transformation. My first boutique item I created was made from a pair of overalls. They were too short for my daughter, but still fit her everywhere else. I simply picked a two inch piece of mirrored trim and sewed bands onto the bottom of the overalls making them longer. Then I cut of some of the mirrors from the trim and added them to the front of the overalls. Not only did I make a boyish item more girly, but I created a one of a kind item that no one else would have. It's that simple.
Another fun item for turning into a boutique child's piece is a denim jacket. There are so many things you can do to make it interesting. You an add a faux fur piece of fabric to the collar. You can stencil or paint a design or words onto the back. You can use fabric patches and iron-on words to make it pop. My favorite boutique transformation item was a white denim jacket from old navy. I stitched around the edge of the collar and wrist cuff of the jacket giving myself something I could add a crochet trim. I used the stitching as a base to crochet on a fuzzy yarn trim. When my daughter was done wearing the jacket, I was able to sell it for a profit.
If you are very brave, you can try cutting off elements of an existing clothing item and changing it out with your fabric and trims. For instance, you can shorten a pair of pants to Capri length, and add a couple of layers of brightly colored ruffles. You can take a cute shirt, and add fabric to turn it into a dress. You can also add matching trim to a pair of leggings.
Creating boutique clothing is actually quite fun and it allows you to use your creativity in a new and interesting way. Before you know it, you'll be redesigning every outfit your child owns. Plus, you can stretch the usefulness of your child's old clothes as you can add fabric to make the item fit longer.
