Turn Fashion Don'ts into Fashion Do's!

K. F. Lynn
It's hard to keep on fashion trends. From year to year, things go in and out of style: retro, vintage, modern, classic -- fashion can be a headache sometimes. But no matter what, we have to be able to express ourselves with what we wear, right? Thankfully, if you're in love with a pattern that was in three years ago, but has been out for a year, don't freak out yet! There are a lot of great, manageable ways to turn fashion don'ts into fashion do's. If you're wondering how to do it, check out these three fashion do's and don'ts for 2011.

Oriental prints. Oriental patterns were big in 2009, but fell off the radar towards the end of 2010. But for those of us that love the style, that doesn't mean we have to get rid of it! Wear oriental prints on the bottom--a skirt or a cute pair of shorts. A full print top can be a little overwhelming, so pair the skirt with a solid red or white top for a pop of color and updated don't-to-do fashion.

Leggings/Stockings. Leggings can be great--comfortable, easy to move around in, and versatile. But, ladies: if they're see-through, wear them under a skirt or high-waisted shorts. An easy way to tell if they're see-through is by taking a picture of yourself. USE THE FLASH. If you can see your undies, throw on a second layer or opt for more opaque tights. This look might be desirable for girls in rap videos, but let's stick to reality, shall we?

Fur. Not even from an animal-lover's standpoint, fur is about the tackiest accessory any outfit can have these days. We know that a lot of ladies think it brings them back to old Hollywood days, but in a world that is becoming increasingly ego-conscious, fur is a big no-no. Faux fur is out too. We hate to break it to you, but a lot of people can't see the difference. It all looks the same, and it all needs to go. Instead of fur, go for texture! Accents of crushed velvet or ruffles are making a big splash this year, so experiment with your textures--have fun with it!

Not all fashion trends have to die--some just need to be tweaked a little. Remember, if you love a piece in your closet that hasn't been in style in a while, you don't have to get rid of it. Express yourself with your style, and turn any fashion don't into a do!
