Turn that Tired Gazebo into a Garden Centerpiece

Angela Dawn
It's summer, the time of year when families and friends want to spend their time outdoors in the nice weather. If you have a gazebo that is the obvious place for you and friends to congregate. However, if your gazebo is looking a little weathered and beat it may not have the draw that it used to. So here are a few ways to spruce up your gazebo that are easy on the pocket but will revitalize a revamp it making it your garden centerpiece once more.

First, there is paint or stain. Give your gazebo some color! A whitewash will brighten any gazebo. However, don't limit yourself to white. Stains come in all different wood tones these days. Like I said though, don't limit yourself. There's a wide range of color stains available now as well. An inexpensive place to find them is your local Wal-Mart. How about staining your gazebo navy blue? Add some white chairs (which can be a flea market find and painted white) and some natural rope accents and give your outdoor space a nautical theme.

Then we have flowers. These are such a simple and easy option of which there are many to choose from and are easy on the budget. Flowers will brighten up any space. Hang large flower pots from the corners of your gazebo and it will instantly become the centerpiece of any garden. Throw potted plants on the ledges and tables and brighten up your space instantly. If you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty and enjoy gardening plant flower beds around the edges to compliment any potted plants set inside. You've created a space that draws the eye and and creates a pleasant atmosphere that all will enjoy. And again, easy on your budget!

Fabrics are another alternative to sprucing up your gazebo. These might run you a little more money but are still much more budget friendly than buying a whole new gazebo all together. If you have a sewing machine and are creative this could be the perfect thing for you to do. Add a pop of color to your gazebo furniture by replacing seat cushions and throw pillows with bright bold colored cushions (which as I said above you can make yourself). Make sure the fabric you use is outdoor friendly because you wouldn't want to promote mold growth from moisture which would ruin all your hard work. Another wonderful use of fabric is by putting up long curtains in the openings of the gazebo. It will create a cozy romantic space or add that little extra to showcase your pillows and furniture.

These are only a few things you can do but remember that all it takes is a little creativity. Decorate your gazebo like you would any room inside because it IS a part of your living space. A few inexpensive accents/fixes can add new life to any gazebo.
