Turning Over Your Closet: An Expert How-To!

RedPlum
Transitioning from your carefree summer style to fall's layered looks doesn't have to be so hard. When you are looking through your closet and trying to decide what will work and what won't here are some guidelines.

1. Jersey dresses in colors like black, nude or brown can be layered with blazers or long sleeve tissue tees and tights for a great fall look.

2. Jeans of course work in all seasons, though you might consider putting away the white ones since they will seem out of place with the rest of your fall wardrobe.

3. Tee's and tanks can stay and be used as layering pieces all year round.

4. Short sleeve button-down shirts can be thrown on under a cardigan or blazer.

5. Even some of your peep toe shoes can stay, depending of course on the materials. Anything with cork or lightwood for the heel is probably too summery to make the transition.

Now that you know some of the things that can work into your fall wardrobe let's talk about the pieces that must be put away until the warm weather hits again.

1. White linen or eyelet, whether it be pants, dresses or jackets, just won't work in the fall.

2. Capri pants, not the most flattering look even for the summer but they definitely don't work in the fall.

3. Sandals need to go back in their boxes until your feet are tan again.

4. Terry cloth tube dresses are much too beachy to have a place in your fall wardrobe.

5. Sheer or Batik printed tunics feel wrong in the fall.

Use your best judgment; if something screams summer to you then chances are it will still scream summer even paired with your fall clothes. Instead stick to more basics that are lightweight and easy to layer or neutral and easy to pair with the richer deeper shades of fall.
