Turquoise - a Current Accent Trend in Home Decorating

Colors Come and Go - Fast

Turquoise has been deemed the color of the year by Pantone, which provides color standards to design industries. It works easily with other blue-green elements you may have in your home.

Because color trends come and go so quickly, you probably don't want to make a huge investment in turquoise. The way to make your home feel updated, is to add turquoise in pillows, artwork and area rugs. It is often blended with metalics - such as copper and gold. If you keep your furniture neutral, color splashes can easily change the entire look without breaking your budget.

Through years of color word association studies, we find that people associate the turquoise shades taking them to a tropical paradise or near lapping waves. This makes for a more peaceful and serene escape to a pleasant place and makes them feel relaxed in their room.

In many cultures turquoise is believed to be a color of deep compassion and healing. It is also known as a color of faith and truth that is inspired by the colors of the sea and the sky. Think of the jewelry of the native Americans in the southwestern part of the United States. The intricate designs showed that they loved and enjoyed working with the color and it brought them great joy, along with those who wore the jewelry.

As with all colors, you may have a certain hue that you love best. Blending shades of turquoise with blues, yellows, reds and pinks enables you to get even more out of the color.

A yellow kitchen with white trim and a few turquoise accents would truly be a kitchen in which you'd enjoy eating your morning breakfast. The feel of sunshine and the sea would be both perky and calming at the same time.

Combining red and turquoise in throw rugs or pillows would liven up a family room or a room with lots of action. Pink and turquoise would be great in a bedroom - especially a young girl's bedroom.

If you'd like to try it out in your home, buy a few round balls of the hue of your choice and put them in a metal or colored container. Most likely everyone who enters your room will notice and comment on your new choice of color - and they will love it.

Unless you truly love the color and plan to live with it awhile, it probably isn't best to rush out and paint several walls turquoise. But then - maybe that is your favorite and would show your true personality.
