Turtix Rescue Adventure Independent Game Review

Matt Remley
Platform games have been around for years yet Turtix: Rescue Adventure by Alawar is new to the genre. Players control a turtle named Turtix with big ambitions, as he sets out to rescue his fellow turtle friends. All game play is done in the style of Mario games we know and love from the 1990's.

Turtix defeats enemies by jumping on their head, and rescues his turtle friends by jumping on the bubble that they are incased in. With a control set up being so easy a child could play, and graphics that can amaze many players, is Turtix: Rescue Adventures worth the $19.95 price tag?

Game Play

Much like other platform genre games, Turtix: Rescue Adventure features three different worlds and levels with multiple floors. Players must jump from one floor to another collecting stars and secrets for points, and rescuing turtles from bubbles. Stars are found throughout the stages, and secret areas are often in hard to reach areas.

Rescuing turtles is very easy, since players only have to jump on the bubble that imprisons them. There's only a small catch to rescuing our little friends, which is the addition is traps after the first few stages of the game. Players can look forward to spikes sticking up from pits, and even enemies looking to block the path of Turtix.

To defeat said enemies, Turtix must jump on their head. Thing is, if Turtix is stricken by the enemies a certain number of times he can and will lose his life and depending on what difficulty level being played, you may have to start the level over. In Addition, the only way to avoid being punctured by spikes is to block them off with blocks found in some levels.

After releasing turtles from their bubble, Turtix must guide them to the levels exit. This becomes a challenge because of spikes, there is no way to alter the direction a turtle is walking after being released from its bubble besides for walls or other solid surfaces such as buttons.

Graphics

As childish as they seem, the graphics featured in Turtix: Rescue Adventure are very impressive. They may not be state of the art or anything, but they are colorful and make the game very enjoyable. Everything from the spikes to the background images are detailed and totally immersive.

Sound

Almost as equally immsersive are the sound effects, however, they aren't as impressive as the graphics and animations presented by Turtix and his friends. Each sound effect further details the game, but could use some work in terms of quality. Sound tracks on the other hand have some great beats and feature some upbeat tunes.

Creativity & Innovation

With three worlds and 60 levels of family fun, Turtix is a great game. While it may not be creative in the least, at least the theme of the game is unique. Surely the developers weren't aiming to be innovative, and that's the only down side to the game. However, if you just want to have some family friendly fun, consider purchasing Turtix: Rescue Adventure.

Even I can rescue turtles! See...even Margaret said how detailed your reviews are!!!! Game reviews are, in my opinion, are very tedious to write and make sense of....you have it down to a science!
