Turtle Fest and Flat Rock Creek Festival Scheduled in Northwest Ohio
Popular September Festivals in Northwest Ohio Include Napoleon's Turtle Fest
While September begins to bring Fall colors, and Northwest Ohio county fairs in Henry, Defiance, and Fulton counties fade in the memory in favor of high school football, some popular September festivals are still in the offing.
The 13th Annual St. Augustine (Church) Turtle Fest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, 2011, at the Henry County Fairgrounds in Napoleon, Ohio. Some of the fastest greenish- brown four-legged low-to-the-land racers are set to compete in the festival.
Paulding County Fairgrounds Flat Rock Creek Festival
At the Paulding County Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday, September 16 through 18, persons over 13 are asked to pay an admission fee of $3 per person to the Flat Rock Creek Festival. Those 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is also free.
The Paulding County Firefighters Association provide a Pancake and Sausage Breakfast each morning of the Flat Rock Creek Festival from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Entertainers of the classic kind Mr. Bojangles, Harmonica John, and Nancy and Spittin' Image, as well as impersonators Barney and Gomer, add daily theatrical flair.

13th Annual Turtle Fest in Napoleon Ohio
Everyone knows the story of the Tortoise (Turtle) and the Hare. At the 13th Annual St. Augustine Turtle Fest, turtles will come from the west, east, south, and north to get their chance to qualify to some day take on that over-confident Hare!
Turtles race on individual levels in their window front, rectangularly thin cage set under the Big Top for all to view. They rush to the opposite side of their level in a race to see who can reach the finish line first and who can pin down the Speed Crown of 2011. (The turtle closest to the finish line after three minutes of racing is declared the winner.)
Rules of the race for humans who want to participate include the following: 1) Locate a race in the Race Program; 2) Choose a turtle(s) racing phenom; 3) Locate a race ticket seller; 4) Place a wager on the chosen phenom(s); 5) Cheer on as the turtles speed away; 6) Repeat Steps One through Five for more Fun!
Other activities at the Turtle Fest besides the turtle races include adult card games, 50/50 drawings, silent auctions, a kids tractor pull, and more. Ethnic foods -- Brats, Burgers, and Dogs! -- as well as beverages and ice cream will be available.
The turtle betting and adult Poker, etc. card games are for those 18 and older.
