The Beer - Nico Ortiz, the owner of Turtle Mountain Brewing Company, was inspired because of beer. They pride themselves on the beer brewed there and have two house beers that are always on tap and boast of the fact that they have up to ten rotating brew master specials at any time. The staff brews over 40 different brews during the year. You can check their menu online to find out what is on tap right now. The beer is definitely the driving force of the whole operation and you can even buy large bottles of beer that you can take home and bring back for refilling. Try it by the glass or get a sampler tray of 6 different brews.
The Food - Even if you aren't a beer fan, the food is enough to bring you in. You can get pizzas and calzones straight from the wood-fired oven or go for some of the pub favorites. Fish and Chips, Mac and Cheese, Rib eyes, grinders and any number of sandwiches or burgers are available. Choose appetizers or go for a meal. I tried the Fajada Fettuccini with chicken, it was delicious.
The People - The staff at Turtle Mountain are friendly and make your visit enjoyable. Everyone from the hostess, to the waitress to the busboy was on top of things, kept the drinks coming and made sure we had everything we needed in a timely manner.
The Atmosphere - This truly stands up to the reputation of neighborhood brew pub. Everywhere we looked people were chatting and congregating, enjoying the food, the beer and conversation. It was evident from watching the patrons and staff interact that there are regulars who come often and enjoy the atmosphere. We sat on the patio and had quite an enjoyable dining experience.
The Sports - Turtle Mountain is an official U.S. Soccer bar; in fact, they are the only official U.S. Soccer bar in the state of New Mexico at the time of this review. You can join them for coverage of the 2010 World Cup on their HD-TV's and come back during the year for other sports. During football season, they subscribe to the NFL Sunday Ticket and if there is a major sporting event on, you can find it there. They also state that they host several of The New Mexico Scorpions' after game parties at the pub.
Turtle Mountain Brewing Company is located at 905 36th Place in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
