Tuto Nano - the World's Cheapest Car - the World's Biggest Pollution Threat?

Stephen Joltin
The Tutu Nano is the World's cheapest cars costing only $2,200. It is made in India and utilizes it's 40 to 50 HP to tool around town with multiple occupants. It is not meant for highway driving with its top speed of 50 MPH.

Some people are calling this the potentially new biggest polluter since many people in developing countries will be able to able to afford a car, where before they had to walk or bike. The ultra mini diesel also would not be able to run on alternative fuels such as ethanol or become a hybrid due to the small space which houses the motor.

So is this the answer to the gasoline and pollution problem or is it going to make these problems worse?

Analysis shows that the Third World Countries, the target for this new vehicle are becoming relatively wealthier. They are still far from being able to afford $15,000 for a new Toyota or other sub- compact. So at first glance you might say the pollution level will greatly increase with many more cheaper new cars in the mix. This may not be true since there are plenty of old and much higher polluting used car for these people to choose from for the same price.

What do you think?

  • Tutu Nano cost only $2,2000
  • It produces only 40 to 50 Horse Power of energy
  • It may raise pollution levels.
Invented and produced in India. More and more companies are trying to build and sell comparable cars.

    hey..its not Tutu NANO..
It is TATA(Manufacturer) NANO(name of the vehicle). The pollution contribution here is not because of the emission standards, but because of the large no. of cars they are gonna sell!!
India follows the EURO emission standards..currently we are on EURO III.

I think everyone should get rid of their cars for a car with 50 max.speed.Fewer lethal crashes. As for the environment, well,i pray for the day when tutu nano or sth similar gets a less demanding engine.

Many, many more people will be able to drive in less-prosperous nations now. Is it a right that everyone should be able to drive? Is it a good thing? Do these people really need to drive to make a living? Do half the people in the US?

No one is going to trade their SUV or luxury car for one of these.

Tell me this - Will it pass the California Smog Test? If yes, then I'm in line for the test drive! First car I could actually afford and love to drive.
