Tutorial: Getting Started on Facebook

R. Elizabeth C. Kitchen
Facebook is often described as the Myspace for college students and professionals. It allows you to network with your friends and meet new people in which you have things in common with. There are far less kids, so you will be able to network with those that are your peers. Getting started with Facebook is relatively easy and it doesn't take much time. Even the most non-tech savvy people will find Facebook easy to set up and use.

Setting Up a Facebook Account

Getting started with Facebook is as easy as typing in www.facebook.com. Once there, you will need to choose your school, geographical location or workplace. Then just enter your email and your desired password and you are good to go. You will be sent a confirmation email and once you confirm that, you are an official member of Facebook.

Setting Up Your Facebook Profile Information

Now, it's time to develop your Facebook profile page. You can enter as much or as little personal information as you like. You also have the chance to list some of your favorite things such as musicians and television shows. You can enter as much or as little information as you like about your favorite things. You can also choose to edit or add to what you have or have not written anytime.

Uploading Photos on Facebook

Uploading photos on Facebook is easy. All you need to do it follow the few steps and your photos will be uploaded. Facebook is the largest photo sharing site and you are allowed unlimited photos on your Facebook page. You can also change your profile picture as often as you would like.

Finding Your Friends on Facebook

To find your friends on Facebook you can look through the groups or search for members individually. If you are seeking several people from the same college, then just go through the group or groups for that college. If you are searching for an individual member, just type their name into the search bar in the upper right hand corner and click the search button. When you find your friends just send them a friend request and the rest is up to them.

I thoroughly enjoy Facebook. I have Myspace too and like it also, but Facebook has a more professional feel to it. I was able to connect with many of my fellow CP's from Associated Content and I have also found many of my friends on there. I think that Facebook is social networking at its best.

I have an account and don't think I have any friends yet. I found the AC group, but have been stymied what to do next. Just haven't taken the time to work it, though.
