One of the things I like to do is tutoring. I have worked with Sylvan, Wyzant, and also Club Z, but in 2009 I have started my own tutoring business, called ElamTutoring.
This tutoring business started because I wanted to offer quality tutoring; also the desire to offer a lower price service than most tutoring businesses around is the heart of ElamTutoring.
I really enjoy tutoring. I mainly work with students between ages 6-18 and I offer help with the following subjects: Math, Biology, English, Reading, Spanish, Chemistry, and ACT preparation.
My greatest joy comes when I hear students saying how easy math is now, how they have high Bs and As, and of course hearing their parents say that their kids are on the honor roll.
ElamTutoring uses the "skeletal method" where information is offered to the student one layer at a time. I believe most of the problems students have is because they need someone to break down the information to their level. Teachers often will explain something using a lot of mathemactical or other scientific language when the students need someone to speak their language. Often time I will use cartoon analogies, characters, and games to illustrate a mathematical sentence to a student. They understand it better.
I tutor face to face and also online now. Most of my students started face to face and have moved to online tutoring. The effect is just as good. Tutoring online is done using a whiteboard and it is very interactive. We use youtube for biology lessons, amazing powerpoint presentations, skype if needed for communication, and every lesson is recorded through the whiteboard unless it is done through skype. It is awesome! The parents are happy because they don't have to drive from home; they can take care of things home while their kids are being tutored. It saves time and gas and you get the same result. In fact I have noticed that students get better results online because they enjoy being on the computer and they find it more FUN.
Learning should be exciting. I offer that. I am effective. I guarantee 2 letter grades up in about 3-4 months! I have seen it happen over and over and am confident it can happen again. References are available upon request.
If you have children between ages 6-18, just check out my website listed under "Resources" , here on the right side of this page and do not hesitate to contact me. First session is FREE and you will see the difference!
If you still prefer face to face( if you are local to Birmingham, AL),then we can definitely do that, too.
