TV Judges: Who's Better, Judge Judy or Marilyn Milian?
Who's Better: The Flame-Haired Lady or the Face-Lift Lady?
So let's compare Judge Judy to her closet TV rival, Marilyn Milian, "The hottest judge on television." Why is Judge Marilyn Milian better than Judge Judy?
It isn't obvious that Marilyn Milian has had five facelifts.
Well, more seriously now...
Marilyn Milian doesn't mock facial expressions of litigants as litigants are nervously trying to come up with the right words. Come on now, when Judge Judy does this, this is demeaning and belittling, and obviously done for ratings. Now, if the litigant is a complete swine, some bum who's beat his girlfriend and refuses to pay child support, or some swindler who takes advantage of handicapped people, I'm all for any kind of mocking and belittling.
But Judge Judy mocks anyone and everyone who doesn't deliver like a seasoned news anchor. Pardon the litigant for being a little nervous! She'll even scold someone for ruffling some papers! Well gee, pardon them for having a nervous habit while standing before a judge on national TV! At least ruffling papers is more sightly than nibbling on a finger nail, pulling at one's lip or plucking out an eyelash.
Judge Judy comes across as though she thinks she's far superior to every single litigant. Yes, I know many litigants are pure trash. But I must repeat: She will brow-beat, berate, humiliate, mock and belittle even the more innocent litigants, like some meek, shy young mother, college student or hardworking family man who's simply trying to present himself or herself in the most convincing way, and isn't exactly blessed with the gift of gab or the highest level of organized thinking.
Judy will degrade and shame even the eventual winner of the case!
Yes, some litigants are instantly despicable. But Judge Judy has no discrimination. Sometimes she's dead-on with her choice of whom to insult for lack of intelligence: "I'm a LOT smarter than you'll ever be!" or, "I have more brains in my pinky than you do in your entire body!" But Judge Judy says these things way too often. And she only does this to litigants whom she knows are too meek to fire back at her.
Marilyn Milian, in her bellowing voice, has been known to go all-out on scum, but at least she's more selective and berates the litigants who actually deserve it. Marilyn Milian never mocks litigants who aren't blessed with speaking skills, and she has more of a sense of humor than Judge Judy.
It's obvious that Judge Judy decides who's won the case as the litigants are entering the courtroom. She pre-judges and refuses to allow litigants to present most of their information. I realize there are time limits, but it's also very clear that Judy won't hear anything more because she just wants to be mean and grossly unfair.
Case in point: The defendant claimed that the plaintiff broke through the window of the back door of his house. The plaintiff was obviously losing the case, and it was clear that Judy believed the plaintiff instigated physical aggression against the defendant. However, Judge Judy scolded the defendant for letting the plaintiff into his house in the first place (and rightfully so). But also however, Judy was so pissed at the defendant for doing this that she slammed down her gavel before the defendant could present the remainder of his countersuit claim: He had a receipt for the cost of the replacement of the broken window for $47. This was a perfectly legit counterclaim, yet Judy, in her huff-and-puff way, refused to hear it. Shame on her. She pulls stunts like this all the time.
Judge Judy raised five kids and all have college degrees. But college educations don't mean those kids didn't grow up in constant fear of their mother. I could just see Judge Judy tearing through her children's bedrooms in the middle of the night, ripping clothes out of the closet and throwing them in fits of rage, a la Joan Crawford in "Mommie Dearest."
Marilyn Milian displays enough tact and diplomacy to balance out her own tirades against trashy litigants. In fact, in a recent airing, the aging female plaintiff was displaying absent-mindedness upon examining some evidence against her. Someone in the audience began chuckling. Marilyn Milian piped up, "What's so funny?" She added, "Show some respect."
What would have Judge Judy done? She would have mocked the little old lady, who seemingly had early signs of dementia, imitating the old lady's facial mannerisms, and rolling her eyes up at her in disgust. But I guess that's what gets the biggest ratings.

Post a CommentI prefer Judge Judy. You may not like her tactics, but much of that is to keep order, and keep people from distracting the proceedings by going on about irrelevant details, or talking out of turn. Judge Milian loves the crowd, and allows people to talk out of turn all the time, and whereas Judy would say "bup-bup" and tell the person their time is not now, Milian lets the person finish their own interruption! She also likes to ham it up and impress people with how "hip" a baby-mamma she is, and even slides a lot of crass ethnic references in like she's a big chicana. But tactics aside, Judy's judgment seems more on target, and more in line with how I'd like to see a case go down, based on the evidence, whereas Milian sometimes rules the other way. But I like 'em both, but esp. like Judy's approach to keeping order, a necessity when they only have 15 minutes, a fact that Milian seems cavalier about.
Lol.. who wrote this article? "...family man who's simply trying to present himself or herself.." I think the problem with that sentence is quite indicative.
I am so glad to have this opportunity to express how much I truly, truly can not stand Judge Judy!! She is the most obnoxious female as equal to Joe Brown being the most obnoxious male judge. Why is it necessary to call people names and humiliate them on national television? It is embarrassing enough to know that half the country is watching you make a fool of yourself, let alone how really idiotic you are in life. Name calling is not needed when you are a JUDGE, and supposingly is setting examples for the "common folks". Judge Judy gets the higher ratings because she is rude, disrespectful, and a grouch. Misery loves company. Many people in this world do not know how to love one another and stick together. It is amazing that this woman, Judge Judy is allowed to spew her arrogant, demeaning manner on people who are trying to get some justice for their issues. She loves to hear herself talk. She is disruptive and unfair and should be thrown off television. Why should we tolerate a Judge who is supposed to show respect and fairness. It is more amazing that she gets so much money for being this disrespectable at the expense of the people who foolishly appear on her show. I can't stand to look at her and her crazy expressions. This is what we get when we accept low expectations. When will quality and principles in a human being be what we should expect, not this arrogance and utter disrespect for people and their issues. I can only imagine what living with this woman is like. I am sure this personality that she exhibits on her show is also exibited at home.
This article is RIGHT ON TARGET!!!! And Joann you hit the nail right on the head w/your comment! I like both TV shows and both of these judges do have their good qualities but by a landslide Judge Marilyn Milian is the more fair judge! She treats her litigants in a far more humane manner than Judy does! Although Milian can get very nasty it's ONLY when it's absolutely necessary to do so! (Ex: a complete scum-of-the-earth litigant). You can tell she's way more concerned with justice and fairness than ratings and time crunches!! Kudos to "Her Honor" Judge Marilyn Milian!! (But I will be honest, I do enjoy watching Judge Judy as well!)

Judge Judy should go. Judge Judy is so sarcastic and does not show true justice. Judge Judy thinks she can do no wrong. She is so rude and looks down on people. I can not watch this show any longer. I will continue to watch Judge Marilyn who gets her point across without all the drama.

Judge Judy puts on a good show for the viewers where Judge Marilyn is a more genuine person who gets her point across without being sarcastic. I can't watch Judge Judy anymore because she to have made up her mind about the case before she even hears what the litigants speak. You go Judge Marilyn!
