TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" Season 2 ~ Sisterhood of the Traveling Spanx

As the episode opens Joy is lying on a sofa telling her troubles to whom? One would expect a psychiatrist; but no it's a gypsy fortune teller. The fortune teller tells her to wear Spanx and they would bring her luck and as a theme somewhat like the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" each one has a story to tell about the Spanx, that Elka insists on calling a girdle.

Joy arrives at the home of a guy she thinks is her date and he called her because he wanted her to babysit; not go on a date!

Victoria tries them out. Thrilled that she got a call from her agent to play a part in a movie, she goes to New York to find out that she is playing the part of Melanie Griffiths' mother. Her and Melanie Griffiths do not get along and trade insults especially about how old Victoria is because she balks at playing her mother. Now Victoria is mad at the Spanx too.

Melanie wears them and tries to attract a cute guy at the local bar played by Jack Wagner. A robbery occurs at the bar and when the thief runs out, she knocks down a waiter. The cute guy turns out to be a doctor and attends to the waiter and asks for something with compression that has to be strong. Melanie tells him she has something and makes everyone turn around as she takes off the Spanx!

As luck would have it; the tables turn and the doctor returns Melanie's wallet that she left behind when she removed her Spanx and asks her on a date. Joy loved babysitting and now wants to have a child of her own; she gave one up for adoption long ago. Victoria and Melanie Griffiths' video of them fighting went viral and she is again a star and as Elka is watching the ballgame on television the announcer mentions how trim Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore looks as he is up to bat. Joy then looks at Elka and Elka admits that she Spanxed him!!
