TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" Season 2 ~ "Law and Elka"

Four Wonderful Women Living in Cleveland!

Diane Zoller-Ciatto
This season finale episode starts like an episode of "Law and Order" with narration by Victoria Chase. So we are in the courtroom at Elka's trial. Played merely for laughs, the scene is pretty much a joke. The judge played by Sherri Shepherd is grilling the handsome lawyer who represents Elka whose face is pretty messed up as to his whereabouts "after church on Sunday" and it is obvious that there had been something going on between the two of them and she now does not believe his lies. So there goes Elka's chance for an acquittal.

Elka has more than one trick up her sleeve; as Melanie tells her that all she has to do is convince one juror. Elka does a bit of jury tampering herself and starts flirting with an old guy on the jury and has him nearly falling out of the jury box with her antics.

Joy is with Victoria who is interviewing the First Lady of Ohio (played by Amy Sedaris) who takes her aside and tells her the scoop. Victoria immediately recognizes someone just like her and they decide to use each other to "get to the top." The First Lady recognizes Joy as the eyebrow queen who did Oprah's arch and wants her to sculpt her husband's one eyebrow. Joy then asks her for a "favor" about her immigration status.

Back in the courtroom Elka is on the witness stand still flirting with Juror #8 who is sweating profusely at Elka's antics. The judge recognizes that the man is not acting normally and questions if he is feeling ok. He then says that the witness can continue while he drools.

Back at home the ladies are discussing the trial and Elka seems fine, but the ladies are worried. Elka pulls out a letter from Juror #8 that asks her to meet him in the broom closet before the trial resumes and that he will have his driver drop him off early. The ladies remark that he must be rich to have a driver but how rich could he be if he could not even get out of jury duty?

So as Elka leaves the broom closet stating that; "justice has been served," and proceeds to the courtroom. Shortly thereafter the judge announces that a verdict has been reached and Elka is guilty. She will be sentenced at a later date. As Juror #8 comes out with his driver, she finds out that he suffers from an illness that causes a loss of short term memory whenever he gets excited. His driver is escorting him out when the juror looks at Elka and says hello, just like he never saw her before.

Meanwhile Joy's picture sitting on the Governor's lap while tweezing his eyebrows shows up on the internet and she is now accused of being the "governor's hooker." Now the ladies find a note from Elka that she has left to avoid incarceration. At the end of the episode she is riding in the back of an Amish wagon with an Amish man who is taking her to a secluded spot where she will not be found.

The series will conclude on June 15th, but for anyone who missed any of these episodes; they will be replayed two a week back to back until the new season starts back up. I know for a fact that I will be patiently waiting until then when the laughs pick up where the others left off.
