TV Moms Who Are Real Life Moms

She's a Mom and She Plays One on TV!

Heather K. Adams
We all have our favorite mothers on television, but how many of those actresses are actually moms in real life? Here's a list of seven television actresses who do double motherhood duty as TV moms and real life moms.

TV Mom / Real Life Mom #1 - Debra Messing (The Starter Wife)

Actress Debra Messing plays Molly Kagan in 'The Starter Wife' on USA Network. In 'The Starter Wife', Molly Kagan is a single mother raising her daughter Jaden, while trying to rebuild her life after her divorce.

Debra Messing entered into the realm of motherhood in real life in 2004 when she gave birth to Roman Walker Zelman.

TV Mom / Real Life Mom #2 - Molly Ringwald (The Secret Life of the American Teenager)

In ABC Family's 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager', former teen actress Molly Ringwald portrays Anne Juergens, the mother of pregnant 15-year-old Amy and 13-year-old Ashley.

Molly Ringwald, now 40, ventured into motherhood in 2003 when she gave birth to Mathilda Ereni. Ringwald is currently pregnant with twins (a boy and a girl) due in August 2009.

TV Mom / Real Life Mom #3 - Paula Marshall (Gary Unmarried)

Paula Marshall co-stars in the CBS sitcom 'Gary Unmarried' with actor Jay Mohr. Her character, Allison Brooks, struggles to balance motherhood with her awkward relationship with her ex-husband.

While not much is revealed about her life as a mother, Paula Marshall does have one child with her husband Danny Nucci.

TV Mom / Real Life Mom #4 - Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck)

The family portrayed on FX Network's medical drama 'Nip/Tuck' is far from average. Actress Joely Richardson's character, Julia McNamara, is the mother of Matt and Annie McNamara. Julia tries very hard to be a good mother to her children, but she is far from being the epitome of motherhood. Incidentally, TV Mom / Real Life Mom #3 Paula Marshall guest starred in 2007 on 'Nip/Tuck', playing Julia McNamara's husband's girlfriend.

Joely Richardson has one daughter with ex-husband Tim Bevan. Daisy was born in 1992.

TV Mom / Real Life Mom #5, 6, and 7 - Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, and Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives)

The main cast of ABC's 'Desperate Housewives' touts three real life mothers who also bring motherhood to life as actresses on the small screen. Teri Hatcher's character, Susan Mayer, is the divorced mother of Julie; Marcia Cross plays Bree Hodge, mother of Andrew and Danielle; and Felicity Huffman's character Lynette Scavo is known as being the super-mom of the group.

In real life, Teri Hatcher has a daughter, Emerson Rose, born in 1997. Marcia Cross gave birth to fraternal twins Eden and Savannah in 2007. Felicity Huffman has two daughters, Sofia Grace and Georgia Grace, with husband William H. Macy.

Nice article. With the exception of those who became moms before fame came their way, I'm not sure their experiences compare with moms who struggle financially and can't afford nannys, health insurance, personal trainers, etc.
