Great Indie Band? or Greatest Indie Band?

I'm very new to an indie style of music, I normally stray from it because I've always seen the effeminate voices and couldn't even see past it to the music. However I saw this band on the Colbert Report and noticed they had a very interesting sound. So with the download running I became very excited for an entire new genre to play around with.

Altogether, the music amazed me. The lyrics were simply incredible (Dancing Choose for example: in my mind i'm drowning butterflies / broken dreams and alibis; / that's fine. / i've seen my palette blown / to monochrome- / hollow heart / clicks hollowtone, / it's time.) The music itself is very strange, its a combination of some rock motiffs, jazz, electronica, and the singing style swaps from singing to almost rapped lyrics. Crying was a track I liked a lot, it had a very strange feel to it, with a synth beat, jazzy guitar chords, a smooth bassline, and mellow singing. Its just very soothing and then it goes into a full jazz feel around a minute in, and starts swapping feels and sounds throughout, its just a journey. Previously mentioned Dancing Choose is a very quick and impressive track, the horn section in this song sold it for me, they added a real depth to the emotion. That and as previously mentioned, the lyrics are top notch, however its difficult to distinguish a theme. Family Tree is another soothing track, piano accompanied and very ambient, the singing just relaxes you with metaphoric lyrics and the plethora of different sounds surrounding the voices.

This music seems something almost anyone could easily open up to, its very relaxing, and I can't find a single song that doesn't seem to have something for everyone. The tracks are at an average of 4 minutes each, and regardless of the other songs, which are good, the three songs I mentioned are worth the entire album. So after having my indie cherry popped by this band, I will probably delve deeper into the new music produced today, the entire experience was rather eye opening and wonderful, I recommend this highly, very deserving of the Colbert Bump.
