Many people are nostalgic for the classic television shows of a time from our past. Favorites brought back to life capture fans attentions at least when they first are aired, but are TV remakes worth the effort? Would shows from the 60's 70's or 80's make it today?
If we look back to some of the remakes that have been aired we might think it's not likely that TV remakes are worth the effort put into creating them. The "Bionic Woman" first aired as a spin-off of the "Six Million Dollar Man" in 1976, and aired for three seasons. Lindsey Wagoner played "The Bionic Woman." The show was very popular and had three TV movies made after the series ended. In 2007 NBC created a remake, and it started out as the hottest new show of the season, but after nine episodes the show was gone. NBC also tried a remake of "Knight Rider" which did not last long. The CW has created a remake of "Beverly Hills 90210" called "90210." While the series is still airing it is not considered to be the block-buster hit that the original was.
CBS tried to bring the 1960s hit "The Fugitive" back to main stream TV, but it lasted only 22 episodes. CBS tried again to bring a classic back on September 20, 2010, when" Hawaii-5-0" came back. So far it has been a huge success with 24 episodes airing in the first season. The second season starts September 19, 2011.
TNT has joined the idea of remaking hit television shows and. "Dallas" will premier on TNT in summer of 2012. I would have liked to have seen CBS bring the show back. I am not even sure if I will tune in to see it on TNT or not. If it gets a good enough buzz I may eventually tune in.
All of these TV remake happenings that are going on got me to thinking about what shows I think should be brought back. Then I watched the new CBS talk show "The Talk" and the ladies were talking about their ideas. I was surprised that a couple of their ideas were actually ones I had been thinking about.
I would like to see a revamped "Fantasy Island." I would love to see the kind of fantasies that could be created. The special affects and such available today could enhance the show, and make it even more enjoyable than the original. Instead of having an employee yelling "Ze Plane Boss, Ze Plane" I think it would be better to have the boss of the island as a family man, and his kids could be the ones screaming, and alerting them to the arrival of the plane.
I would also like to see "Three's Company" remade. John Ritter's son Jason could play the guy living with two girls. I would like him to be portrayed as Jack Tripper's son. Finding a way to bring back Suzanne Somers and Joyce Dewitt would even enhance it more. Maybe one of them could be married to the owner of the building, and he would have to be just as silly as Mr. Furley. When they find out his dad is Jack Tripper they could think back to stuff that happened when they lived with him. It would be a way to bring John Ritter's character into the show at times.
So what do you think? Do you think are TV remakes worth the effort, if you do what television shows do you think should be remade?

Post a CommentIt all depends on the show, the writing and the stars. I am excited about the remake of Dallas. On the other hand, I could care less about the remake of the Angels.
