TV Shows Deserving Recognition: A Haunting, Intervention and Family Court

Jamie Brown
Did you ever watch a show and wonder, "How come I never heard about this before?" Well, that happens to me a lot. There are three shows in particular that I watch on a pretty regular basis that I think are really good, yet they get absolutely no props from the major media. Those shows are : A Haunting on the Discovery Channel, Intervention, which comes on the A&E network, and Family Court, a judge show that comes on the CW and various television channels depending on your area. I'm surprised no one has really been talking about them.

A Haunting

A Haunting is a fairly new television show that comes on the Discovery Channel at random times during the day. It tells the true stories of hauntings and other ghost stories that happened to real people using actors and special effects. It's a pretty good show, and the fact that the actual people who went through the ordeal speak on the events throughout the episodes is what helps make it more credible.

There's something about that opening music of A Haunting that draws me in and next thing you know I can't turn the channel. If you like a good ghost story, you should definitely check it out.

Intervention

Another hour long show that some people have caught onto, but which hasn't really gotten much press is Intervention on A&E. It follows the struggles of drug addicts, alcoholics, people with eating disorders, and even people with OCD and other addictions. The show is so compelling because it actually shows the addicts in action. From their attempts to get the drugs to their use of the drugs, right on into the moment they discover that they are the subject of an intervention. When they sign up for the show, the participants don't know that they will have to go through an intervention, so it all usually catches them by surprise.

Watching this show makes you want to never pick up a glass of alcohol ever again! It really makes you take a hard look at your own behaviors to make sure that you're nowhere near the track that these people have gotten on as they progressed in their addictions.

Family Court

No, not The People's Court, Family Court! This court television show is headed up by Penny Reynolds, a sassy, pretty, New Orleans born judge complete with a very heavy southern accent. The show is focused around family issues. Judge Penny is the type of judge who will tell you all about yourself with a sugary sweet smile and leave you unable to do anything except laugh at yourself. People don't ever seem to leave her court angry. She has a special charm and ability to relate with people that Judge Judy couldn't touch even on her best day.

These television programs may not be well known or discussed in the major media outlets, but they are definitely great shows that deserve better coverage.
