Tween Girls' Birthday Party Idea: Purple Theme

Emily Harmon
If you're planning a tween birthday party for a tween girl you may be stumped for a theme idea. Your little girl is beyond having a character themed birthday party but she is still young enough to enjoy a party with a fun theme. Many tween girls love purple. The color purple is girly but a little more mature than pink, and makes a perfect theme for a tween girls' birthday party. Try these tips and ideas for throwing a purple themed tween girls' birthday party.

The Decorations: Purple decorations will be simple to come by. All you really need are some purple balloons and purple streamers to pull off the decorations for a purple themed tween girl's birthday party. If you want to get a little fancier though, consider purchasing some inexpensive purple tinted glass containers from a dollar store. Fill these containers with purple flowers (check your local grocery store for a purple bouquet on sale and separate them out with just 2-3 flowers per container). Or, you can just use plain clear glass containers you already have and fill them with purple tinted water. These easy but lovely purple decorations are the foundation of a great purple themed tween girl's birthday party.

The Food: Purple is a great color for creating a food theme around. Many kid-friendly favorites come in purple flavors such as grape kool-aid, grape candies, and purple popsicles. You may also consider serving blue corn chips, which often have a purple cast to them. Purple fingerling potatoes, purple carrots, red grapes, and purple cabbage can be incorporated into some healthier dishes for a flash of purple color. And of course the cake needs to be iced in various shades of purple and lavender.

The Activities: There are plenty of fun tween appropriate activities that go nicely with a purple themed tween girls birthday party. First of all, consider tie-dying. Tie-dye kits can be purchased online. Party goers can bring their own white shirt, hat, scarf, or other item. Then just use the purple dye to tie-dye the items as a great party activity. A game you could play is "name the paint chip." Visit your local home improvement store and get paint chips in various shades of purple. Cut the names of the paint colors off of the chips (make sure you mark the paints so you can remember which is which!). Write the names on separate pieces of paper and play a game of who can match the correct name to the correct paint chip. Finally, no tween purple birthday party would be complete without purple manicures. Enlist some of your girlfriends to come and do fancy manicures, with purple nail polish of course, for all of the party guests.

The Favors: A great way to give favors for a purple themed tween girl's birthday party is to buy small clear bags and fill them with various purple candies. Candy stores and even grocery stores often carry candies of specific colors, or simply scan the candy section for purple packaging. Fill the clear bags with your purple candy choices and a little purple tissue paper or crinkle paper. Secure the bags with some purple curling ribbon and you have classy party favors for a classy purple themed tween girl's birthday party.

A purple themed birthday party is a great way to throw a sophisticated but still simple and fun birthday party for a tween girl. Try these purple tips to have a great birthday party for your tween girl.
