Robinson's Tweets Show He Still Doesn't Get It

As the Twitter phenomenon has taken off, no Knick has made more known about their personal life than Nate Robinson. Robinson has spent the summer tweeting about his off-season workouts, live updates on traffic situations, and most recently, his future as a New York Knick.

Robinson had announced a meeting with Knicks brass that no one, not even his agent had confirmed publicly, via Twitter several days ago. After public speculation that the meeting may not exist, Robinson tweeted on Monday, "I meet wit mr donnie walsh wed keep ur fingers X !! Hope it goes well." This message created the buzz that perhaps Robinson and Walsh were having a private meeting. It also begged the question, if that's the case, why is Robinson tweeting about this?

Wednesday came, and Robinson tweeted, but most of his tweets were about playing the new Madden video game. There was no mention of the alleged meeting with Donnie Walsh. Had Walsh instructed Robinson to use a little discretion in discussing their talks? That would make sense when you consider that none of Robinson's two-dozen tweets yesterday even mentioned the Knicks...until 11 pm.

Around 11 pm last night, Robinson tweeted, "I wonder if I could get a twitter group in the garden this year, like in college a student section?" Perhaps this was just something to get his tweeps pumped up about following him, but he followed this up with, "I need all my real tweep...when ever u come to the knick game wear a iam follow n nate robinson on twitter tshirts," and "Iama, name my son Knick Carter Robinson if I have a boy." It appears that Robinson may be towing the line of telling Knick fans that a deal is imminent without angering Walsh by making private business public.

The other possibility, however, is that Robinson recognizes the Knicks' one-year qualifying offer as his only true option and he is trying to psych himself up for the ego blow. Despite his prolific scoring capabilities, Robinson's height is a liability on defense, and his questionable leadership skills have not been helped by the immaturity that he has displayed off the court this summer.

Robinson, who has a history of traffic violations, was pulled over earlier this month and arrested for driving with a suspended license. While pulled over on the side of the road, Robinson gave his Twitter fans a live play-by-play of the situation, displaying an obvious frustration with the authorities. Robinson later removed this tweets and apologized for his immature actions, but that's not where it ended.

After paying the unpaid ticket that caused his license to be suspended, Robinson tweeted, "the small traffic incident from last week has been cleared up." One might wonder, how Robinson could consider an incident that caused public embarrassment to his team for a week could be considered small. What might be more troubling in regards to Robinson's personal accountability, though, is that rather than taking responsibility for not checking the mail at his Seattle address, having it forwarded, or updating his address with the DMV, Robinson tried to play the incident off as not his fault tweeting, "i personally paid the ticket that was originally sent to the wrong address. that's what caused the confusion." How can Robinson hold himself accountable for making the right decisions on the court if he can't hold himself accountable for making the right decisions in his life?

Whether or not Nate Robinson and Donnie Walsh did meet on Wednesday is still in question. Robinson definitely has an opportunity with the Knicks because they tendered a qualifying offer that they can't take back, but whether or not Robinson's antics this summer have made the Knicks his only option is in question as well. Only Robinson knows the answers to these questions, but one thing is for certain: Robinson may have tweeted about wanting to be a Knick earlier this summer, but last night, the eve of Robinson's alleged meeting with Walsh, was the first time that his tweets indicated a future in New York.
