1. A question for your brother: What color is your sister's bathing suit? (This could open a window on how well family members pay attention to little details about each other.)
2. A question for your wife: What was your husband's childhood nickname, and does anyone still call him that? (This might be fun for the kids to know, and might make them feel a little bit better if they get called names.)
3. A question for your sister: What's the first thing your brother does when he gets home from school? (Are we really paying attention to our family members' daily routines? Or has become simply - routine?)
4. A question for your brother: What are the names of three of your sister's friends who are on her Facebook or My Space page? (Could be an interesting discussion either about snooping, or maybe he's got a crush on one of his sister's friends.)
5. A question for your husband: What was the name of the last movie the two of you went to see without the kids? (Could be an interesting moment to take stock of how often the parents spend time alone.)
6. A question for your sister: What is your brother's favorite comic book character? (This could be an opportunity for an interesting family discussion about why he likes this character above all others. Could be that he relates to this character in some way... or maybe he just likes the costume.)
7. A question for your husband: If the two of you were meeting each other at the bookstore, what section would you find your wife in? (Hey, what does that guy in the romance novel have that I don't?)
8. A question for your daughter: What is your father's least favorite vegetable? (So if you hate broccoli, why do I have to eat it?)
9. A question for your wife: nothing short of a power failure will keep my husband from watching this on TV. (In other words, don't try starting an important conversation during Monday Night Football. At least wait until halftime.)
10. A question for your sister: What was the last Halloween costume that your brother wore? (Let's reminisce a little bit together...)
11. A question for your husband: The house is on fire. Assuming that the whole family and all the pets are out safely, what would your wife say is the next thing you would try to rescue? (Priorities...)
12. A question for your daughter: Name three things you like best about your Dad. (So often we focus on the negative things, here's a chance to heap on some praise.)
13. A question for your husband: Does your wife still have the outfit she was wearing when the two of you met? (Not only a chance to see if he remembers details about that significant day, but does he know what's in-or not in-your closet?)
14. A question for your husband: Your wife is out of town, and one of the kids seems to have a fever. Do you know where the thermometer is, or will you have to call your wife? Bonus points if you know how to use it. (Good things for everyone to know...)
15. A question for your brother: What is the name of your sister's favorite stuffed animal, what kind of animal is it, and if she still has it, where in her room is it? (Just another question about what we know about each other, and how well we're paying attention...)
16. A question for your wife: What is your husband's favorite dinner that his mother used to make for him? Bonus points if you know how to make it. Extra bonus points if you make it every week. (It's the little things we know about each other that can be the most comforting)
17. A question for your sister: Who in the family is the most likely to take the biggest piece of anything? The last piece? (A fun conversation-starter and maybe a lesson about not being too greedy)
18. A question for your husband: When you were a kid, did you ever shoplift anything? What was it? Did you give it back? (Could be a little life-lesson for the kids...)
19. A question for your brother: Lots of girls play dress-up with Mom's stuff when they're little. Did you ever try on any of Mom's clothes or makeup? (Just something silly to talk about...and maybe your brother deserves some "payback" for something he teased you about!)
20. A question for your wife (or, reverse this if she's the sports nut!): What sports team does your husband "love to hate."
