Twenty-Three: An Addition Poem

National Poety Month Daily Challenge: The Addition Poem

Khara E. House
I
am
one
Fall
short
of life.
This day,
my spring
beginning,
marks only a
doorway into
your long hall,
my Autumn Reign.
My tree, a sapling,
greened, against a
pale blue sky, cries
out against passing
Time, stilled. A shadow,
creeping up my veins, is
gnawing at these roots. I
cannot branch my limbs, my
bough, too short to touch, to
reach the dawn of my own time.
