Apparently the grossest part of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" has nothing to do with vampires sucking the blood out of their mortal lovers or werewolves rending apart their victims. The Bella Swan birth scene is causing seizures.
Part of the crucial climactic scene of the latest in the popular series about a vampire and his human lover involves Bella, the human played by Kristin Stewart, giving birth to a half vampire/half human hybrid child. The scene is rendered quite graphically, with blood and screaming.
According to CBS News in Sacramento, Brandon Gephart, who was seeing the movie with his girl friend, began to convulse uncontrollably during the birthing scene. Paramedics had to be called and Gephart was transported to the hospital while the rest of the showing of the movie was cancelled.
Who knew that a chick flick, albeit one with blood and guts, could be so dangerous to some people? It was thought that the utter tedium of the first two thirds of the movie was bad enough.
The seizure was likely brought on by red lights (i.e. blood splash on the movie screen) along with black and white images with the likelihood that Gephart was genetically predisposed to suffer such an attack when confronted with that stimulus. Gephart is doing fine, though he will apparently not see "Breaking Dawn Part 2."
Gephart, by all accounts, is not the only one that has suffered a seizure during the birthing scene.
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1," the fourth in the franchise, concerns the marriage and honeymoon, followed by the surprise pregnancy and subsequent birth of a vampire/human hybrid whose fate will feature in the fifth and last film, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" While the movie has been almost universally panned by critics, including this one, it has enjoyed massive box office for the first week or so of its run, thanks to a built in audience of teenage girls enamored of the love triangle between Edward, a vampire, Bella, an emotionally stunted human, and Jacob, a werewolf. The series has been compare, somewhat unfavorably, to "True Blood," a more adult series running on HBO, based on the Southern Vampire books.
