Twilight, A Love Story that Gave Harry Potter Competition

I first heard about the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer only a few months ago. I had stumbled across a few fan sites declaring their love for the main characters, Isabella Swan and Edward Cullen. I didn't understand their fascination and had to find out for myself. A few days after my first discovery of the Twilight Saga, I went out and bought the 3 books that had been published so far in the series, and when the 4th book came out a few weeks later, I bought that one as well. Finding myself staying up in to the early AM just to read a few more pages, I understood why people were becoming addicted to and craving more of the delicious series.

Whenever something becomes super popular and appeals to a large amount of people, there will always be others who find flaws and reasons why that 'something' should be hated. Twilight is no exception. People have commented on how the characters have no depth, and that story is too predictable. Everyone has the right to criticize and the right to state their opinion. Before I started reading the series I couldn't understand how people were so involved and wrapped up in something that wasn't real, I thought it was pathetic. I can say, that I am definitely not one of those Twilight obsessors that spends hours day dreaming about being Edward Cullen's wife.

The problem I have with the negative criticisms is that the books appeal mostly to tweens and teens, ranging from 12 - 19 years old. A good majority of the ones who decide that breaking the book down to some pathetic novel series are over the appealed age range or have never read the book themselves. If the books were really that horrible, then why did it make the top of the New York bestseller list and took Harry Potter a run for its money?

The series revolves around the main characters, Bella and Edward, and their struggles they face while being together. Edward, an immortal 17 year old vampire, falls deeply in love with Bella, a normal, mortal human girl. The danger of Edward being too close to Bella causes tension between their relationship that they eventually overcome.

The stories are always adventure-filled and entertaining, guaranteed to leave the reader wanting more.

My enjoyments include reading a great novel, playing a round of golf, resting at home, and visiting the lake.  View profile
