Twilight Makes for the Best Group Halloween Costumes for Teens

When I saw this assignment from AC I immediately jumped at the chance with my idea of them presently super popular vampire franchise known as Twilight. This is a perfect concept for Halloween costumes for groups, especially teens, because it's presently very popular, everyone recognizes the characters and there are enough characters more a small group of teens or a large group with dozens of people. These costumes are great, not only for Halloween costumes, but also for any Twilight convention or movie premiere.

Parents have no need to worry about Twilight being too risque in regards to the clothing or subject matter. Twilight is a very mild vampire/werewolf movie and there is nothing to sexy for horrific about it. Feel safe with this theme for a group of teens on Halloween or what have you.

Note that to really be true to the Twilight characters it would cost a few hundred dollars per costume but, you don't need to get the exact unless you are rich and can afford it. The average person can piece together pretty good costumes for under $50 each. I have included links to some more expensive costume items just to give you an idea of what you need to get.

Background

Twilight is a popular movie and book franchise about vampires that is written by Stephenie Meyer. The story is about Bella Swan, a teenage girl who moves to the town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. She meets and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. He is a good vampire, as well as his family, and do not drink human blood. The Cullens, as well as Jacob Black and his werewolf pack, swear to defend Bella from hostile vampires.

Twilight contains many characters to choose from in regards to costumes. We have the good vampires of the Cullen clan including, Edward (Robert Pattinson), Carlisle (Peter Facinelli) & Esme (Elizabeth Reaser), Rosalie (Nikki Reed) & Emmet (Kellan Lutz), Jasper Whitlock (Jackson Rathbone), and Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene). We have bad vampires including, James (Cam Gigandet), Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) and Laurent (Edi Gathegi). Finally, We have neutral-like vampires with the Volturi rulers including, Aro (Michael Sheen), Jane (Dakota Fanning), Alec (Cameron Bright), Heidi (Noot Seear), Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl), Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower), Felix (Daniel Cudmore) and Demetri (Charlie Bewley). We have the werewolves (in wolf and human form, which is probably best for these costumes) including, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) and his wolf pack. Last but not least we have Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), the heroine of the story, who is human for most of the story but later turns into a vampire as well.

There are tons of choices of characters to use for Halloween costumes. Twilight has dozens of characters to choose from but I am only going to describe 4 different characters and possible costume ideas. The characters wear different outfits, so you can decide which look you want. The 4 characters I am including are the main characters of Edward Cullen, Bella Swan, Jacob Black and Alice Cullen.

Before I go into details about the costumes, I want to describe what accessories are required for the vampires and werewolves.

Vampires

Vampires are the main characters of Twilight so they require their own general accessories to get that dead and/or monstrous appearance. Twilight vampires require 3 basics: contacts, white makeup and, of course, fangs.

Contacts

Twilight vampires possess different colored eyes that change color for different moods or states. Vegetarian vampires, like the Cullen family, have golden or Amber eyes, thirsty vampires have black eyes, monstrous vampires, such as newborn vampires, James, Laurent, Victoria and the Volturi, have red eyes. To get these inhuman shades of eyes, they require contacts, which can be bought at eyewear stores on or off-line. Colored contacts might be difficult to purchase without a prescription from a doctor. The cost can be anywhere from $10 to a few hundred dollars but, for a costume, you probably want to keep the price under $20 or just skip them altogether because they are probably difficult to see anyways.

Makeup

Twilight vampires have pale skin that sparkle in sunlight. The basic pale skin can be duplicated with White foundation and white powder. Sparkles can be purchased as well but these are optional.

Fangs

No vampire costume is complete without fangs. Plastic fangs can be purchased any where costumes are sold.

The Wolf Pack & Quileute Tribe Members

The Twilight werewolves are members of the Native American tribe called the Quileute, which is made up of humans and turn into werewolves and humans that do not. Both groups are Native American, so you want to go for the bronze skin and long black hair look with simple clothes, like blue jeans and black shirts with the occasional hat.

The werewolves do have orange or reddish eyes occasionally, so you might want to add contacts if you choose. Again, like the vampire contacts, you will need a doctor's prescription and the cost will be around $10 to a few hundred dollars.

Edward Cullen

Edward is a vampire and his basic accessories include those I listed above under vampires. His own personality comes out in the stylish clothes that he wears and his well-groomed hair and appearance. Edward's trademark is his hair, so this should be the main focus of his costume.

Bella Swan

Bella is a human for a majority of the story, so this is our most recognizable appearance and the one which would make the best costume. Everyone recognizes her gentle features and long brown hair. She has a few different outfits including, her usual street clothes, her prom dress with leg cast and her birthday party green dress.

Jacob Black

Jacob is a member of the Wolf pack but is wolf form is too difficult to reproduce as a costume because the wolf form is essentially a real wolf. His costume almost has to be a human form but it is just as recognizable I think. He just requires a proper simple clothing, a little jewelry and perhaps colored contacts to show that he is not human. He is a Native American and it might be improper to say but his character is the stereotypical Native American character you see in many movies, so go with that look if you want to dress up as Jacob.
