Twilight and New Moon Collectibles Still Flying Off of Shelves

Jason Gallagher
While most people in country have a love hate relationship with Twilight, and the characters associated with the Stephanie Meyers series of books. The collectible market is as hot for these items as it ever has been. With The Twilight Saga: New Moon, raking in millions of dollars at the box office recently, teens and tweens and parents alike have eagerly been forking (get it "forking" like Forks) over cash to add charms, puzzles, backpacks, DVD's, posters, magazines, and pretty much anything else with the Twilight characters and actors motif.

The New Moon movie poster alone is difficult to get for movie poster collectors under twenty dollars. The New Moon craze has only underscored the popularity of the original Twilight items as well. Further complicated the scenario for any movie or Twilight collectors is the release of Eclipse coming fast on the heels of the success of New Moon at the end of June. While that leaves many people eager to see the vampires from Forks, WA on the big screen, it also means that the popularity of the collectibles and items associated with Twilight will stay hot pretty much throughout the Summer. Of course that translates into low supply and high demand, which drives prices high.

While the Twilight inspired dolls have been met with lukewarm secondary market love, inexpensive items like charm bracelets and backpacks almost double in price from retailer to collector. Even the New Moon trading cards are flying off of shelves. Really, movie memorabilia collectors have not seen this kind of boom since a certain boy wizard phenomenon. What it really means is that if you have a Twilight fan in your family, purchase those items when you see them, as it is likely they will not be on the shelf long.

Fans are snapping up merchandise long before collectors can have a crack at them. Which puts the collectibles into an interesting wait and see category. The real question is how many of these items will survive handling over the next few years, and how popular can the series stay for an extended period of time. Even Lord of the Rings magic has cooled off dramatically over the past few years, so it remains to be seen what collectibles for New Moon and Twilight can stay relevant. If the items can hold their price range past Summer 2010, condition will become a premium very quickly, but more important the sky may be the limit.
