Twins Span Hits Mother in the Chest; What Are the Chances?

Line Drive Sends Mom to the Hospital

Michael Luchies
Expect Wanda Wilson, mom of Denard Span, to get a very nice Mothers Day present. During a spring training game on Wednesday against the New York Yankees, Twins outfielder Denard Span fouled off a pitch that went sharply into the stands. Not only did the ball travel into the stands, it hit a person, that person a mother, that mother the mother of the player who hit the pitch. Wanda Wilson was hit in the chest by her own sons foul ball.

After the incident, Span did what any of us would by running into the stands to attend to his injured mother. Wilson was taken to the hospital and was sore but not seriously injured.

Span was able to complete his at bat in which he struck out, and then completed one more at bat before leaving the game to visit his mother. Span said that he wasn't mentally into the game, no one can blame him for that.

Make sure to give your mother a hug today, and not hit her with a baseball to the chest.
