Twisted Truth of the Matter

Scott Bauer
Most things in this world that we believe in are actually far from the truth, and even further from the reality we are given.

The events in our life, be it something small like another bill showing up in the daily mail, or something more dramatic like a death in the family or the 9-11 attacks, are twisted tales and are not as they appear.

The vast majority of people in the U.S., and to a lesser extent in other "civilized" countries, are fed the information that they use to go about their daily life. Matters of truth, reality, and the fundamental meaning of what we do, are left to the "powers that be" to disseminate as they see fit. The masses, or sheep as they shall be called in this writing, are willing consumers of this false information and even more disturbing, shun the prospect of the possible falsehood of this information from on high, as a paranoid delusion.

Every minuscule detail of our daily lives is manipulated by someone else.

Governments, media, and corporations all have a huge stake in the actions that we take and the thoughts which run through our minds. The greater good is often given as the reason for spinning the truth, but who's good? Is it for our own good or is it for the good of their bottom line?

Money is a primary factor in this control of information. Put the fear of terrorism into the sheep and you can raise the price of the commodity that comes from the enemy region. Or any commodity for that matter.

Tell people that the consumer confidence is high this x-mas season and watch the sheep flock to the stores.

Duct tape being sold as a protection from anthrax back in 2001 is a prime example. Silly as it sounds now, millions of rolls were sold in a matter of weeks because of it.

It's the gregarious nature of the masses that makes us swallow this type of misinformation. We want to believe in something larger than ourselves. We want to let someone smarter and more experienced than ourselves to make hard decisions. We want to be able to blame the other guy for the ills that affect us. The responsibility for our own lives seems to be too heavy of a chore for the sheep.

So we let these trusted higher-ups take control, while leaving none of the free-thinking for ourselves. The majority of people don't have an issue with this, and in fact they don't even recognize that it is happening.

But a lucky few do.

For generations this has been occurring. It's arguable that this type of mental control has been going on since civilization began. Perhaps it was just the strong ruling over the weak centuries ago. Maybe it was survival of the fittest. Regardless of the root cause, the art form of mass manipulation has achieved its greatest success with the monotheistic religions.

A more civilized and subtle method of control was needed after physical overbearing became too costly with the creation of weapons that anyone, even the poorest person, could make or buy. Weapons that equalized the sheep with the wolves.

Religion struck the masses with something more fearful than just a painful death, as was the threat of the physical control. It grabbed them by what comes after death. The afterlife. Eternity. Something the people could not see or fight, superstition and the unknown.

An old saying states that if you control the mind the body will follow. Here in the 21st century this has never been more accurate.

Make the time to sit still every day. Sit and think, use your mind to force your eyes open. Reevaluate the life you lead and question the way you live it. Are the choices you make your own? Or is nearly every aspect of your being been handed to you on a silver platter? Maybe it is time for the sheep to make up their own minds on what is right and wrong in the world, and take the power of living back from the money-hungry "powers that be".
