TWITTER is ALL the RAGE on The Internet- or is It?

As some of you more up to date internet savvie people may already know 'Twittering' has been sweeping the internet at an alarming rate! People are twittering all over the world with each other. There are some users that have hundreds, thousands even of Twitter friends, and followers logged underneath them! This is huge even by internet standards my friends. You can send a 'twitter' from your computer, your phone, your IM, almost anywhere that you can send an instant text message! You can be walking down the street and send an instant 'twit' to so and so to let them know that you are bored and you are on your way home. Just because you want to.

The owner and CEO of Twitter, Evan Williams, won the 2007 South_by_Southwest Web Award on March 13th, 2007. They did their acceptance speach in, you guessed it, 140 word or less! www.twit.tv/natn15 Interview with Evan Williams.

To 'twitter' or 'twit' for short is to in effect send a short little 140 or less character IM over cyberspace for anyone to see. Yes, I do mean anyone! Unless you take measures to make all of your 'twits' to be only personal they will be broadcast all over the internet for anybody to see and read. This is possible and is easy to switch on, but this losses the broadcasting abilities of the whole Twitter network, which in my editorial opinion is the best feature about Twitter! You can also send personal 'twits' to just your friends, contacts, if so desired and not over the web plane. All optional.

Thinking of Twitter in a broader scheme of things I tend to lean towards the broadcasting that could be brought in by using Twitter. Think of all the people that are reached with just one little sentence on one little 'Tweet'? Thousands. Think of all the marketing potential there is in this idea. Priceless if used right. Evidently I am not the only one to think so, because in researching this and another article that I recently wrote I ran across another article stating from the developer of www.twittervision.com himself, that John Edwards had joined Twitter and was broadcasting his campaign messages through Twitter.

Now that is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Utilizing a free service that can reach thousands of people for FREE!

There are interface protocols out there that can read all of the 'twitters' from all over the world and display them at random for anybody that wants to log on and watch. Dave Troy is the developer of www.twittervision.com ,which is one of the twitter interfaces that people can watch to see all of the incoming twitters. Just a warning though, this can be addicting. Especially when trying to see your own twitter on there! I have to wonder if John Edwards sat and watched if his 'twitters' came across???

Anybody can follow anything that you are broadcasting. All they have to do is click on a little add link and they are following everything that you are twitting/texting. Twittering is easy and can be fun if you like to Instant message with people or are curious about what other people are doing or visiting. I also like the fact that I can send out a message into cyberspace and just anybody can read it. You will find friends out there that like to do the same things as you do. You will also find yourself compelled to click on some links that you see popping up just to see what they are as Twitter turns all http urls into a short little link starting with tinyurl so that nothing is a blazing ad or spam. Which is a very nice feature.

There are several good interfaces for the use of Twitter so that you can enter your own twits and see your friends at the same time and I recommend trying out your own and seeing which one really works for you and your computer, as they all act way different and what works for one user and computer does not necessary mean it will work for another. Twitteroo.com has one that is good, but it has some kinks in the software codes, but is operational and fun to work with.

When using Twitter please just be aware that pretty much the whole world can read your thoughts/twits and use some good old fashioned common sense when twitting out there! Now have fun and go twit!
