Twitter - the New Godfather of Social Networking

Twitter is Growing by Leaps and Bounds.

Richard McDuff
I have been a member of Twitter for the past several months now. Twitter has become my mainstary for social networking. Twitter is an invaluable social networking site for me, my writings, my blogs and my stores. I have actually, become too dependant on it for social networking, that I feel that I will have to branch out to other social networking sites.

When every I write an article for Associated Content I will immediately go over to Twitter and write something short and tantalizing to get viewers over to read my articles. I do not personally like the auto-post feature of Associated Content because it just posts the title of the article. I prefer to sprinkle my 140 word twitter post with catchier words and the like.

I personally used Twitter, Myspace and Squidoo to get traffic to my writings. I have since sold all of my Squidoo lenses, and now almost exclusively use Twitter.

I made a mistake over at Twitter, that I hope that many of you will not make - I am following too many people. That is right, I can not follow anymore people because my ratio of following is higher than the people that follow me. Twitter made a change in the middle of the summer, about the ratio of followers/to following and now I can not follow anymore people until my ratio is closer to 1:1. So, my follower numbers have stagnanted significantly.

I feel that people over at Twitter are more active people than Myspace. I will get more readers over to my Associated Content articles than I will from people over at MySpace, while this is hard to confirm, because there is no way to track this statistic. I have done my own little experiment, (while not scientific, it seems as realistic as any other urban legend) I do tweets on Twitter on different days then when I send bulletins over at Myspace. I will get more viewers on days that I send tweets than when I send bulletins.

After a few days when an article has lost some of it's initial interest, I will do another Tweet about how well the article is doing, or something along that vein, and I will get another spike in readers to that article. For example, my slide show about Halloween At Howe's Cave was entered into the Slideshow Library page , I immediately sent a tweet about what an honor this was, and I got a spike in viewers to the slide show. I always look for opportunities to send these extra little tweets to several articles.

On November 13th the movie 2012 will be released, I will definitely be twittering about my article The Year 2012 - Economic Destruction as Well as the End of the World. I am also currently working on a slideshow to accompany this article.

You can follow me over at Twitter and watch for my tweets. I only send out a couple a day, usually at the ungodly hour of 4:30am. .

Interesting Richard. It's funny, I've read quite a few pieces today about Twitter and I just think I need to try it out again. Thanks!
