Twitter Technology: Excellent Promotional Tool for Associated Content Contributors

Take the Plunge and See What Twitter Can Do for You!

Matthew Shively
One thing that I have learned since I have been a contributor on Associated Content is the vast world of technology available on the Internet, like Twitter. Before starting my hobby of writing on Associated Content I have heard of websites such as Twitter, but never really took the time to actually get involved in tweating or blogging avidly. The past couple months I decided to take the dive and see what tweating via Twitter and blogging would do for my published articles on Associated Content. Honestly, one word describes the result; Wow! The best part of all about Twitter is the fact that I can follow people or organizations that interest me and receive mobile updates so I can stay posted on their new topics of discussion.

A few months back when I took the Twitter plunge I created my profile and began following those that put out tweats that interested me. I have grown a list of those that I believe give me insight into what I like to write about, but also those topics that interest me that I don't write about. So I challenge you to take a moment and check out my Twitter profile at http://twitter.com/afshively and see what you like.

Some of the interesting people and places that I follow that interest me are people like "Paranormal?," "Abs Freaks," "Diet Healthy Care," "Sony Playstation 3," and of course "Associated Content." These are the most prominent that I follow regularly to keep up on the things I enjoy reading about most. If you look at the articles that I have written thus far with Associated Content that these are right in the realm of my writing passion: fitness, paranormal, Playstation 3, and dieting. This is just a brush of the surface that Twitter has to offer with regards to keeping me as up-to-date as possible on topics I enjoy plus providing ideas to further write on.

Thus far I have only told you about what I like about Twitter, but what does it do for my articles on Associated Content and how did I get to this point by using Twitter? That is the real question. I have written several articles and published those on Associated Content but would only received marginal views on them. Once I started putting links to my articles on websites such as Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, and Blogger I began to see a significant difference in the number of views. Let's not forget that when you put your articles in multiple other locations webcrawlers find your information and put you higher in the search engines.

Ultimately, it was Twitter that helped out the most. I immediately began promoting my content on Twitter by posting links to my articles. Every time I publish something new I have made it routine to go to Twitter to make sure I put it on there for all of my followers to see. Once I started my profile and built up my personal information I began searching for people, organizations, and topics that fit my personality and interests. Once I found the ones I liked I went to their pages and clicked on the "follow" button to make sure I received their posts. Nearly 90% of the time they will in-turn follow your tweats as well. This is where it all begins. The more followers you get the more hits you will likely receive on your articles. Don't just put your articles as posts though. Create conversations and just tweat so your followers get to know you.

Adding your articles to Twitter and following those that interest you is the easy part to promoting your materials on Twitter. In addition to what has already been said I would go out and do searches and send direct messages to those that I think might be interested in my writing and would sell my articles to them in hopes that they would become followers and begin reading my articles. I would also send direct messages to those following me and speak of the specific articles that may interest them and ask them to promote my link to others. If you are a great sales person in writing, which avid writers usually are, then this is awesome exposure to your work.

The results are phenomenal when you utilize Twitter to your advantage. I was receiving very minimal views on my work, like 1-20 views on average a day. Once I started tweating my information I began receiving around 80 - 120 views daily. Now this may not seem like a lot of views to some of the Associated Content contributors, but for someone that is new to publishing work on a site like me, this is incredible. I cannot wait to see what the upcoming months bring to my work on Associated Content by using Twitter as my promotional tool and I wish the best to all on Associated Content that use this wonderful Internet technology to further their goals.

I love Twitter. I love to read and write and when I follow people on Twitter I seem to be more informed than ever before. I agree 100% Debby, Twitter is definitely it now. Not only do I stay informed about what interests me for writing, but I also stay up to date on all the news better than what I did by reading Yahoo news every morning. Best of luck and reading to you all. Matthew
