Twitter - Why Are Your Followers Running for the Hills?

TheEntrepreneurDiva
I'm sure you have, at one time another, been devastated by the loss of Twitter followers. This is just something that happens in the Twitter community, so it is normal to lose a few here and there. But if you have 15-20 unfollows in a days time then there is a reason that your followers are running for the hills and we are about to find out what the problem is.

1. Are you keeping your followers attention? If you are boring your followers to death then they certainly won't stick around. You have to make sure that your tweets have value, that you keep things fun with your personality, and provide information that your followers are interested in. Keep in mind that your followers looked at your bio before following you so make sure you are giving them whatever it was that attracted them to your bio.

2. Can your tweets be perceived as offensive? It is ok to laugh and joke with your followers, but you will want to keep things respectful and you don't want to say anything that could possibly offend your followers. This is especially true if you use Twitter for business, you have to be careful with your tweets.

3. Have you really put forth the effort to communicate with your followers? You can not always expect to run to you and start a conversation. You have to get out there and mingle with your followers. It wouldn't hurt to ask how a followers day is going, wish them good luck on a job, send get well wishes when their sick, etc. Your goal is to build relationships and what better way is there than to be social.

4. Have you shown an interest in what your followers do? With Twitter you meet people from all walks of life, various occupations, various hobbies, etc. In order to have people interested in what you do you have to show interest in what they do. And you never know, you may find that you have something in common.

5. Are you spamming your readers with nonsense? A lot of Twitter users that use it for the sole purpose of business fail to realize it is a social network not a market place. And while Twitter is a very goo place to gain new prospects and paying customers, the right way to use it is to drive traffic to your outside sources. There is nobody on Twitter that likes to get all of those ads one after another, and no one likes to feel like they are being sold.

6. Are your updates too personal? Ok, let me be honest there are just some things that you don't need to tweet. Like going to the bathroom, who cares! People are interested in things like new foods you tried, tv shoes that you are watch (they might want to watch too), new movies that are out, your reviews on products, etc. Give them something that they can use without grossing them out.

7. Are you sending updates too fast? You want to make sure you are give your followers enough time to respond to your updates before sending another. It can really be annoying to genuinely be interested in someone's update but they bounce from idea to idea so fast that you can't respond. So make sure you are giving your followers time to respond.

8. Are you responding to your follower's DM's? It's important that you are responding to your follower's direct messages. If you are ignoring these DM's then why should they stick around? I know that it can sometimes be hard to answer every DM especially when you have a lot of followers, but you can always let them know that you are getting to them as fast as you can so they won't think you are trying to dodge them.
