Two for $5 or Three for $5: Which Would You Pick?

A Bargain Bonanza

H.Rox
I went to the grocery store today to pick up a few items and found something that made me look twice (and even three and four times as I kept checking it.) The store, Stop and Shop, was offering 10 ounce Cracker Barrel cheeses, usually $3.99 per pack, at 2 for $5 dollars. You could buy one or two, and get the cheese for $2.50.

Ok, I thought. I'll get one. Usually, I like to get about a pack of cheese per week, for sandwiches or to snack on, and I usually look to see what's on sale, so this seemed pretty good. I also like "gourmet" cheeses too, but, I'm on a budget.

Speaking of which, something stopped me in my tracks. There were several small, yellow 2 for $5 signs by the Cracker Barrel, one for each type of cheese, cheddar, swiss, etc. But all the way to the right of those signs, was another yellow sign that said 3 for $5! A bargain on top of a bargain!

I, of course, thought it was misplaced or was for a different type of cheese or only could be used between 3:59 and 4 pm on the third Tuesday of the month or something like that. But, I read the fine print, and found that no, this really was the same Cracker Barrel cheese at 3 for $5. The only rule on this sign was that you had to buy three.

So, I picked out three cheeses and headed to the register with all my purchases. Certain I had misread it, I watched carefully as the cashier rang up the sale. And, well- it was true. It WAS three for five. It ended up looking like a buy two or get one free thing on the receipt. I feel sorry for the people who only bought two, not knowing they could have gotten a third for the same price. And, by the way, I do not work for Cracker Barrel or anything like that.

I am posting a picture of my receipt for proof that this really did happen. (Hopefully this works.) Too bad I didn't have my camera in the store with me, because then I could have taken a picture of the signs, too.

Now, I have to figure out what to do with all the cheese. I was thinking of making some baked macaroni and cheese anyway, so it won't go to waste. Oh, and, I checked the expiration dates, I have several months before they go bad.

Anyone else have some weird bargains to share?

When I see signs like this the cheese is usually in the wrong spot or their so crammed together it turns out its for another cheese. I find this highly frustrating.
