Two All Natural Mosquito Repellents that Work

Sophia S. Mark
There are several all natural mosquito repellents on the market, but not all of them work as well as they claim or as you would like. When you are outside and enjoying everything but the mosquitoes, you don't have time to wait and see if the all natural mosquito repellent really does work. I have tried ten different all natural mosquito repellents that each use different or overlapping ingredients and found two that actually work very well. Here are my reviews of two of those all natural mosquito repellents that offer great protection.

Bite Blocker All Natural Mosquito Repellent
Bite Blocker is and insect and mosquito repellent that is all natural and DEET free. Two of the main ingredients in the repellent, that have been shown to repel mosquitoes effectively are geranium oil and soybean oil. Other natural ingredients in Bite Blocker include coconut oil, glycerin, lecithin and vanillin.

Bite Blocker promises anywhere from four to eight hours of protection, but like other mosquito repellents, natural and otherwise, I found that it didn't last quite that long. The good news is, it does work though. In fact, it worked better than any other mosquito repellent I have tried over the years.

On average, a single application lasted just under two hours for me, a quick reapplication was needed if I was going to be outside for longer. Because it is child safe and DEET free, I used it for the entire family and am always confident that it is working on them too because they do not come home scratching any mosquito bites.

Bite Blocker is available in several drugstore chains or directly off the Bite Blocker product website. The Herbal Lotion is non greasy and is safe for the entire family. I find that the Bite Blocker wipes are handy to keep in the car for the days when you weren't expecting to be outside for an extended period of time, but need insect repellent fast.

Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent
Repel Lemon Eucalyptus was the very first all natural mosquito repellent I tried when I first began looking for a natural alternative. It came recommended to me from a friend who had been using it and had good results. The main ingredient and mosquito repellent is oil of lemon eucalyptus, which has been shown to repel insects effectively in many studies.

Repel is a good all natural mosquito repellent. I found that when I applied, the repellent lasted up to an hour and a half and did a good job of keeping the mosquitoes away. One thing to keep in mind though is that you will need to apply it everywhere in order for it to work. When I only applied it to my uncovered legs and arms, the mosquitoes just lined up to bite my exposed neck or my back through my clothing. So make sure that you spray as much of yourself as possible for the best protection.

Repel comes in a spray pump and is a non greasy solution that actually has a very pleasant, light smell. There is also a lotion formula, but I find that it is harder to use especially when you are already outdoors and you need full coverage as I mentioned. Repel is available in drugstores.

I have not been able to find these.

Solid advice, I'll have to look into Bite Blocker. I spend a lot of time at the lake fishing and camping and I definitely don't look forward to the skeeters. Generally we use Off but the Deet can be a little much. Overall a very good article!

I think it's the smell the mosquitoes don't like. Both my husband and I have tried Bite Blocker and even though it does work, the smell is so rancid that we cannot use it. The smell lingers as well so you have to wash it off thoroughly before bed.

Thank you for this Sophie. I hadn't needed a repellent for some time and just say no to chemicals. :-)
