Two Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

With 4 episodes of the final season under the belt The Hills has gone from being a pseudo perfect life of two BFFs with minimal drama to the explosive twentysomething drama with minimal happy moments. Heidi and Spencer have managed to alienate themselves from their family and friends by developing a bubble around them which is their own twisted world.

With Heidi's multiple surgeries and Spencer's newfound obsession with holistic crystals ($400,000.00 worth!), it seems like the only time they're normal is when they are asleep. The episode this past Tuesday is one of many indications that thing with The Pratts have gone from worse to totally insane. In the beginning, Spencer felt that loyalty meant liking someone because he didn't. If someone disagreed with his views and opinions the relationship was over. Heidi should have seen that as a sign, especially when she turned down his proposal to move in ("my answer is get out of my car"). How could she have possibly thought of having a future with him?

Heidi met Spencer through Kristin and Brody when they were an item; thus the horrendous creation of Speidi. After 3 years they got married and settled into the newlywed life. However, things weren't going as they hoped. Heidi wanted to start a family right away and Spencer wanted to wait a while and enjoy being a newly married man. Slowly but surely they started to alienate themselves from their family and friends having only each other due to the "we are bigger than life" attitude. Spencer should just give up on the crystals because at this point they are only just pieces of pretty rocks around the house - not working for you Spencer.

Before the second half of season 5 they were off and on contestants on I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, which is pretty funny seeing as how they are famous for being famous. They went so far as to plug their hair care products, Spencer being baptized by a Baldwin and Heidi proving to all of America that she can't sing. Speaking of singing, let's not forget the debacle of a performance she did during the Miss Universe Pageant; couldn't dance or lip-sync to her own song - an insult to real singers and musicians in the industry. Her debut album Superficial sold to date only 3,000 copies and got 6,000 downloads; there's goes an album that can be certified plastic.

There has been a buzz these past few days that they are separating. The believable meter isn't in overdrive just yet because there is speculation that this may be a publicity stunt. The reason behind the split is because Heidi is not happy with all the fake press Spencer is controlling and wants to focus on her acting career. That's all she's upset about, his controlling bad press? There has got to be more to it than that. Hopefully this is a fact and not a ploy for more attention. We'll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, Kristin and the rest of The Hills cast are moving forward to the last episode that will close out this once guilty pleasure. There is something on the horizon for Heidi - a new reality show. There is some talk about Heidi and friend Jen Bunney (Lauren & Kristin's former Laguna Beach co-star) will be starring together in a show that will focus on their friendship and love lives. Maybe Heidi will be able to show people she is more than Spencer's arm candy. Again, we'll just have to wait and see.

I've been writing about the entertainment world for some time now. I enjoy the aspects of it, the ins and outs, and some of the drama is like a great reality show. My wish is to write for a few magazines and...  View profile
