There are some outdoor dramas that everyone should stop and watch once in their lifetime. These are re-enactments of historical events in the state that are performed by actors and actresses that bring the history to live. In North Carolina there are two major Outdoor dramas that thousands of people visit and not only enjoy but learn some history from them every year. One is in the Mountains of North Carolina; the other is on the Coast of North Carolina.

Unto These Hills

This has been seen by nearly six million people since 1950. It is a great performance that you won't forget. The costumes are beautiful, and the story is entertaining and very moving. It is the story of the Cherokee Indians history and through the generations the facts about the Cherokee Indians and their hardships they had over the many years. This gives many historical facts about the Cherokee Indians and over the years their involvement with the governments. This is the second longest running outdoor drama in the United States. You can see the performance your self on the Cherokee Reservation in Cherokee North Carolina.

The Lost Colony

If you visit the Outer Banks in North Carolina you can also be entertained with an outdoor drama performance The Lost Colony. This is the longest running outdoor drama, which it has been ongoing since 1937. It has also been seen by over four million people. This runs through the summer months, and this is the true story of the Lost Colonist of Roanoke, where 120 people came to settle. It is here that Virginia Dare was burn. This still remains a mystery to this day about what ever happened to the lost colony. While times were rough and supplies very short, there was no trace of the settlement when the English came back from England.

The performance has music, great costumes, and has dance scenes during the production. It is show at Manteo, North Carolina on the Roanoke Island. This historical- facts based drama is the other must sees if you enjoy plays. This outdoor drama is entertaining and you will learn something about history while always wondering where the Lost Colony could have vanished to.

While there are several other Outdoor dramas in North Carolina, these are two of the most popular and longest running shows in the state. If you plan to visit North Carolina, plan on attending one of these performances for a night that you will never forget.
