Two House Republicans Miss Public Swearing in Ceremony

The First Casualties of the Old Business as Usual Mindset

Snidely Whiplash
In a display of exceptional arrogance two House Republican members were not present for the swearing in ceremony Wednesday. They were otherwise engaged...meeting with supporters. I say toss the SOB"s on their asses and out the door!

This has got to end. The Republican majority seated in 1994 too soon forgot why they were sent...to curb spending, and as result by the new century were spending like spoiled whores, a sense of entitlement proudly worn as they wheeled and dealed. The Pelosi/Reid nightmare showed us Democrats can do it too and forget their place and their jobs.

Now that Pete Sessions and Mike Fitzpatrick have shown us how they roll - the old, buddy network of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours," they should be held out as how this 112th Congress WILL NOT conduct its business. I am ashamed of two Republican's behaving in such an arrogant manner, especially given the rancor over the old "business as usual" that got us into this mess to begin with.

Unlike some folks of a specific unnamed ideology, I will not run cover for these clowns. I will not make excuses and try to justify their actions. I will not play it off as having some unique and justifiable reason for their actions.

Perhaps an explanation is needed.

The 112th Congress is about standing up and proving to American's that our lawmakers have not forgotten for whom they work. It's about demonstrating humility, awe and demonstrating due deference to the concept of "the consent of the governed." It should be about standing up and screaming to the citizens "we get it!" Instead, Sessions and Fitzpatrick decided symbolism was a waste of time. For the clueless, symbolism IS NOT a waste of time.

We salute the flag in symbolic loyalty to her. Men and women die for principles in their defending this nation...that is symbolism after a fashion. An oath is sworn in symbolic demonstration of love and understanding of duty. And the public taking of the oath in symbolic gesture of the whole House doing it is important. It's one of those moments that should cause goose bumps to explode all over one. It makes me teary eyed, but apparently not Sessions and Fitzpatrick.

I can only hope their constituents remind these gentlemen why they are in DC and who they serve. Apparently these two are in dire need of reminding. Sessions represents the 32nd Congressional district of Texas, and if I know Texans they'll hook him up. Fitzpatrick represents the 8th Congressional district of Pennsylvania. As Fitzpatrick represents the Philly suburbs, perhaps some of that famous Philly love will be shown him and in no uncertain terms.

If Republican's don't get the change citizens demand, they can be tossed aside. Laugh at the Tea Party movement all one wants but by golly when Tea Party types get to talking, smart Republican's ear's open. These two clowns better get their ears checked and better get their mind's right or Tea Party folks will indeed enlighten them, and that is as it should be. No more "sacred cows." Citizens are the government of this nation and we must remind Congress of that at every turn. And yes, even my fellow Republicans can sometimes use a reminder of that fact!

DON, your comment is more accurate than you know. Bipartisanship is cancer. It's not a crime to believe and work for whatever one does. Where is it said anyone has to knuckle under to the whim of others? Great comment Bro!

@Patricia "bipartisanship" is one of the most damaging gimmicks ever dreamed up by communists within our government. It is nothing more than a deceptive ploy, intended to elicit undeserved guilt from those who disagree. Same goes for most dishonest labels foisted upon every person who doesn't want to go along with big government.

Tricia said "I don't call this bipartisanship." My only response is shoving Obamacare down our throats over the clear screams of no wasn't either, so let's not go down that road. It is a long and slippery one. But it does bear repeating that this new Congress was sent, according to massive polling, to STOP Obama and the progressive agenda, so even if you dislike the tone, at least the Congress is representing the will of the nation, and that is their ONLY job, so even if you personally dislike it, it is proper representation. They are doing what we sent them to do. OF course you didn't vote for that, but election's have consequences, so there will be far more of it than you've seen already. I say GOOD!

At least the Dem from Oregan that didn't show up was asupposedly on gubmint bidness. Yea .... right.

Fitzpatrick is from Pennsylvania. He's always been arrogant. I was royally ticked when I read this in the Phila. Inquirer this morning. But it doesn't surprise me. I already see much arrogance in this new congress' attitude, from the day after the election when they announced their intention to block all democrat proposals. I don't call this bipartisanship.l

I agree with you, Jimbo, this is just ridiculous. Reprimand them, hold them accountable, Reps or Dems - if you can't get to work on time, find another job. It's MY Business and you report to me (and all the people). Cheers :) Thanks for the news, I hadn't heard it.

You said it all, Whip. What a couple of .....
