Two Little Poems About an Oh so Big God

Shirley A Mandel
The Mercy Wind

When I was living
at the pinnacle of a big cliff,
Christ directed His tender mercys toward me.
He took me off
a jagged-craghead
and placed me on a cushion
to live.
And now His chastenings and corrections
are like a gentle wisp of wind
lifting my hair toward the sun.
When I am wrong
He gently shakes a finger
at me.
And I respond easily
because I love him so.

The Clicker

Dear Lord,
Still my tongue
if it goes
in the wrong direction.
If it clicks,
keep it from tapping out
the wrong messages.

Indeed, let there be bars across the gates of our lips and clamps upon our tongues such that only words of edification and sincere reproofs may cross through.
