Two More Bone Marrow Drives for Kyle Dean Smith

Sabne Raznik
People all over Pike County, Kentucky, continue to step forward to offer support for Kyle Dean Smith, a ten-year-old boy suffering Acute Myeloid Monocytic Leukemia and requiring a bone marrow transplant to live.

The support shown for this little boy has been mind-boggling thus far and has been chronicled in past articles. More recent shows of support have included a local baseball team ordering uniforms with "Fighting for Kyle" on the front for use for this season. Also, the Pepsi-Cola Company in Pikeville, KY. have donated two large banners for use at the bone marrow testing drives being held for the boy's benefit.

Recently, Smith's family were told that there were several potential matches for Smith, however, last week this proved to not be the case since these ones were not close enough.

Two bone marrow testing drives are being held on the same day as Smith's family continues to search for a donor for their boy. The first will be held at the State Fire and Rescue Center in Hazard, KY. from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The second will be held at the Elkhorn City Elementary School in Elkhorn City, KY. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This will be the third of such drives to take place at the school.

To be eligible to take the test, a person must be between 18 and 60 years of age and in fairly good health. Further information regarding eligibility requirements will be available at the drives. If you already have a donor card, please come out to be tested again.
