Two Sides of the Socialite Coin: Ivanka Trump and Paris Hilton

Lorraine Hayden
One is a spoiled socialite, with no apparent talent. Her only claim to fame is her last name and a steamy homemade sex video that made its way into the press. The other graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science in economics.

In all fairness, I should not be so hard on Paris Hilton. Maybe she is simply just a product of her environment. As my own mother used to say, "The apple does not fall far from the tree." Kathy Hilton seems as if she is condoning her daughter's behavior in recent interviews following the sentencing of her daughter.

Astonishing, is the fact that after breaking the law and being sentenced to 45 days (not years but DAYS) in a L.A. county jail; Paris Hilton in fact has a fan base who are calling the ruling unfair. It's kind of spooky knowing that Paris has fans. Who are these people? Is this a case of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"? These "Pod People" actually have a petition going on the internet wanting Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her.

Gov. Schwarzenegger, with all that is going on in his state regarding illegal immigration should not even be confronted with this ridiculous issue.

On the other side of the wealthy offspring spectrum you have Ivanka Trump. The daughter of real estate, casino tycoon Donald Trump, Ivanka is educated and well grounded. She is indeed a savvy business woman in her own right. She is vice president of Real Estate Development and Acquisitions at the Trump Organization.

From what has been reported about Donald Trump in the business media and in the gossip columns, it is safe to assume that he is indeed a tough as nails business man. In spite of their much publicized divorce, "The Donald" and his ex wife Ivana did a brilliant job in raising their children.

I guess this goes to show that one has to act like a complete fool to gain a loyal fan following as in Paris Hilton's case. Young girls actually look up to Ms. Hilton. Ivanka Trump is wonderful role model. But a disturbing fact is young girls simply do not know who she is; there was never an incident that warranted her face to be plastered all over the internet and front pages of the tabloid newspapers. Oh well, that's the price you pay when you carry yourself with class.

Very timely article, given the dubious publicity Paris Hilton has received for a selfish, careless, and dangerous act (disregarding probation and driving drunk). Ivanka Trump has modeled for Thierry Mugler before, and if you run searches you can probably find some photos that would make even Paris green with envy. Brains and beauty; sooner or later the cream does rise to the top.

Good article. Beauty - in people - is not its own excuse for being. There is a need for substance.

Good for Ivanka for not just getting by on her last name and her looks. She is an accomplished woman in her own right and surely must be a source of pride for her parents.

I've never like Donald Trump but I have to admire the way he and his x-wife have raised their kids. From all appearances they seem to have turned out right. Paris, on the other hand, needs to get out of that spoiled little bubble she lives in and prison might actually be good for her.

Ivanka has always handled herself beautifully, and the Trumps know it. The Hiltons should be embarrassed over Paris.
