Two Sweet Shops in Cayucos, California: Cayucos Candy Counter and Brown Butter Cookie Company

If You Have a Sweet Tooth, These Are the Places to Visit!

Sherri Thornhill
On a recent visit to Cayucos, California, I discovered two sweet shops that are must visit places for visitors to this adorable seaside town. The Cayucos Candy Counter and the Brown Butter Cookie Company are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Cayucos Candy Counter

The Cayucos Candy Counter is located at 12 N. Ocean Ave.Ste. 120 and is owned by Jim and Pam Christiansen. This shop is very open and welcoming. The moment you walk inside the Cayucos Candy Counter, you will be hit with the delightful smells of candy you loved as a child. The Cayucos Candy Counter specializes in old-fashioned candy and ice cream.

Whether you are looking for the perfect jaw breaker, fudge, truffles, jelly beans, lollipops, taffy or even sugar free candy, you can find it at the Cayucos Candy Counter. I picked out some special candies for my nieces and myself!

If candy is not your thing, they offer a multitude of ice cream with flavors ranging from rocky road to honey-lavender. I sampled a few of the flavors and was surprised at how delicious the honey-lavender ice cream tasted.

If you can't make it to Cayucos, you can still get a taste of the Cayucos Candy Counter by visiting their website here. You can order candy online and have it shipped to you wherever you live. The phone number to the store is (805)-995-1197. The prices are reasonable for the types of candy you will find there.

Brown Butter Cookie Company

The Brown Butter Cookie Company is located at 250 N. Ocean Ave. in a cute red wood building at the far North end of Ocean Ave. I passed by the shop a few times before deciding to stop and partake in a cookie sample. The free "sample" of the brown butter cookie was far beyond how good I thought it would be. The smell forewarned me that I would love the cookies, but after sampling the original and cocoa cookies, I was hooked.

The owners of the Brown Butter Cookie Company are sisters, and both were at the shop. Christa Hozie and Traci Nickson started the business in 2006 and have since started a website so that people from all over the country can order their cookies. You can visit their website by clicking here.

I bought a 4.2 oz bag of a mixture of the original Brown Butter Sea Salt cookies and the Cocoa flavored Brown Butter Sea Salt cookies. The bag contained a dozen of each of the cookie flavors. I savored every last one of them once I drove them all the way back to Texas! The cookies are not cheap, that 4.2 oz bag cost $25. However, these hand-rolled cookies are such a yummy mix of sweet and saltiness (the sea salt on top brings so much to the flavor) that they were worth every penny!

The phone number for the Brown Butter Cookie Company is (805)-995-2076. You can also find them on Facebook by clicking here. I hope you will pay these shops a visit if you are in Cayucos, California. If you are looking for a great place to eat, try the Old Cayucos Bakery & Deli!

Those cookies sound like something I would love to be able to bake here at home. Have never made cookies with sea salt on top.
