Two Things that Are Crucial to Your Freelance Writing Sucess

Lehticia Leo
If you want to make it as a freelance writer, there are obviously going to be certain tools that you need to make your working from home possible. When I first started my career as a freelance writer, the only equipment that I had was a ratty, ancient and barely functional Dell Inspiron laptop that I bought off of Craigslist for $200. I was also too broke to actually make a commitment to pay each month for a reliable Internet connection service, so I was relying on a Linksys Wireless G card to connect me to the Internet. Not having reliable tools to work with everyday slowed down my freelance writing career more than you could ever imagine. I would be in the midst of writing an article, and then all of a sudden I would lose my Internet connection. When I did happen to have an Internet connection, my computer would constantly freeze because it was so old and in such bad condition. Let my experience and advice guide you on what is absolutely crucial to your freelance writing career if you want the slightest shot at success.

Up to Date Computer

An up to date computer is an essential part of starting a successful freelance writing career. Actually, it's even an essential part even if you freelance writing career fails. A freelance writer does 100% of their work on the computer, so it is crucial that you have a computer with up to date technology. It doesn't really matter if you choose a desktop or a laptop. But a laptop does come in handy if you like to break up the monotony of working alone from home and work from a coffee house, like I choose to do sometimes. Your computer should have an adequate word processing program, a large enough drive to store all of your files (You will accumulate lots of files over time from completed projects) and a speedy and reliable Internet connection.

Reliable & Speedy Internet Connection

A reliable and speedy Internet connection is just as important as your computer, without one, the other is completely useless. If you have a dial up connection, upgrade. Dial up just won't cut it in this business; it's too slow to let you work efficiently. Upgrade to a minimum of DSL. If your computer has WIFI and you think that you will be able to hit off of your neighbors connections to complete your work everyday, think again. This is wrong on so many levels. It's unethical to permanently hit off of someone else's Internet connection, because they are paying for it and you aren't. Also its unreliable, what if their Internet connection gets interrupted or goes down permanently? It's not worth risking it. Your best bet is to invest in a reliable and speedy Internet connection. After all, you will be making enough money from freelance writing to cover the bill each month, wont you?
