Two New Trends for Spring/Summer 2010 Women's Fashion: Head-wear and Personalized T-Shirts

Alexandra Morgan
Spring is here and we're gearing up for a hot summer; now's the time to assess the warm weather wardrobe. The season can be summed up in a few words: casual, comfortable and personal.

Here are the two hot new trends du jour to keep in mind for spring/summer 2010 women's fashion wear.

Key Wardrobe Items and Trends

Personalized T-Shirts:

Women's clothing this season is all about personality: the music women listen to, books they read, men they're dating, places they've been; it's all showing up on the clothing in interesting screen prints, writing, and hand drawn designs. This is a great way to wear something of the moment without looking like an assembly line carbon copy of every other woman out there; it's a trend you can really have some fun with. Billabong, Betsey Johnson, Ed Hardy, and many more are making use of this season's trend.

You'll see this customized/personalized element of Spring/Summer 2010 fashion most on women's T shirts. Whether carefully ripped, personalized with your own art/slogans, or those of your favored clothing brand; in jersey, cotton, or Lycra; vibrant colors or Gray; t shirts are the item of the season. They can be dressed up under a light blazer, dressed down with a pair of jeans, made funky with strategic ripping and/or rocker or art themed accessories. The sky's the limit on this multi-functional wardrobe item.

The beauty of this trend is that every woman can be her own designer, if she's so inclined. Try taking out some of your creative energy on a couple of plain tees this season.

Hats/Head-wear:

From tiaras and scarves, to hats, bandannas, headbands, and scrunchies; head-wear is a trend in this season's women's wear.

Scrunchies can be included in this category because such elaborate measures have been taken by designers to prominently display them in all their 80s glory.

It's important to note that this season's head-wear isn't just about comfort or covering up a bad hair day; head-wear is adorned in costume style, as an essential component to a themed ensemble. This goes for both the casual head-wear and the more artistic and upscale head accessories. The haute couture style head-wear is akin to modern art, as designers show off their flare for shape and construction. Though there is less to be admired in the detailing of casual head-wear this season, there is much thought put into the accessory as a finishing touch on a well-planned ensemble; even the simple bandannas are carefully paired with an 80s inspired or modern casual outfit.

Whether you decide to go for chic or casual head-wear this season, just be careful not to overdo it, you don't want to look like the re-incarnated love child of Vivien Westwood, Cyndi Lauper, and Ru Paul (if that were at all possible).

Don't feel distressed if you're not a hat person, there are so many head-wear accessories out right now that you shouldn't have trouble finding something suitable. For an alternative to hats, try a headband, scarf, or even a tiara (for a spunky, quirky look).

Designers like Ralph Lauren and Alexander Wang are just two of the many offering up interesting hat options for the 2010 Spring/Summer season. Check out which head-wear accessories are showing in your local clothing stores and boutiques for less expensive versions of the runway styles.

Happy shopping to you and have a blast accessorizing and customizing your look this season!
