Two Ways to Make Extra Easy Cash in College

Scott Martin
College students notoriously are hard pressed for cash. There is always something new to spend money on, whether it be another textbook that you didn't realize you needed or that time you went to the bar and spent way more than you expected. The harsh reality is that it can actually be difficult sometimes to make money while at college, even just for some spending money. Between your busy schedule and the lack of jobs, sometimes it may seem like there is nothing you can do to make a few extra dollars. Fear not though, as I compiled a couple of easy things to do that can make you a bit of extra money.

Everyone knows that it is cheaper to buy books online than in the bookstore and you get more money back by selling them online then back to the bookstore. However, most people don't have the time, patience or desire to do this. This is where you come in. Sell other peoples books online and charge them a fee. Be reasonable of course, but you can still make a few easy bucks just by setting up an account on a site like half.com and then creating the listing (only a few minutes of your time) and then collecting the payment and shipping out the book. For only maybe 20 minutes of actual work you could be making five or ten bucks. If you think of that in terms of hours, that's between 15 and 30 dollars per hour! I don't know where you're going to college but I could never find a job that would pay that high.

The number of beer and soda cans/bottles in a college town is staggering. Unfortunately, I see so many people just carelessly throwing them away or letting them pile up saying "I'll get to it later." Instead of waiting for that later, why don't you offer to take the cans back; at a 10% rate. About a half hour worth of taking cans back is roughly $25 to $30 worth of cans so you'd make between $2.50 and $3.00 at that rate. While it's not as profitable as the first suggestion, this can be done all throughout the semester and can really add up. Plus, this is remarkably easy and takes no skill or thought and can be done at almost any time so it will be easy to fit it into your schedule.

While none of these may add up to a huge sum, every extra dollar counts when you're trying to stretch your dollar in your college years. These are just a taste of what you could do. Think along these lines and you'll be making easy money at college in no time!
