COMMENTARY | What a terrible loss, which Karen Perry of Gold Canyon, Arizona has been through. Life can be difficult at times. No, scratch that. Life can be downright cruel. Sometimes, though, when things are as bad as can be, it's then when we also see how good people can be. It's our true nature.
I don't know Karen Perry, whom I learned about recently in a story on AOL Real Estate. But her story moved me, like so many others around the world. After having gone through a divorce, she then also lost all three of her young children - and her ex-husband - the night before Thanksgiving last in a plane crash. As if her pain was not enough, now she's losing her home too. This is not acceptable.
While it's true tragedy befalls us all, it's also true how able we are to help each other through, for no other reason than to help someone along the way. Others have helped me before and it's my intention to now help pass that kindness along to someone else.
Here in what may be her darkest time is when the smallest light can show the way. She's finding she's not alone, not at all. For those willing to send her a donation of any size, I'm here to share two ways to get those to her. If only a few thousand people can afford to send her a single dollar, the collective impact could be life-changing. Here's a chance to do good for someone we will likely never even meet.
The first is through The Ladies Day Fund, out of New Orleans, Louisiana. They're an all-volunteer group of both active and retired Delta Flight Attendants who just believe in doing good when they can - perhaps out of a desire to give back a little to their world. I share them first since, during the month of February, they're matching all funds raised with an additional 10 percent. On their site readers will find instructions on how to donate in the manner most convenient to them. They'll be raising funds through March. You can bet I'll also send what I can afford.
The second way is from a singer by the name of Tina Vallejo, who is also contributing a portion of all sales of her song "Fly (My Angel)," written as a memorial to Karen Perry's three children.
