Two Wheel Tuesdays: Brookfield, Wisconsin's Best Kept Secret
A Motorcyclist's Dream of Bikes and Custard
After the long winter months in southeastern Wisconsin, motorcycle riders are eager to hit the roads as soon as the ice thaws and the salt is cleared from the streets. Depending on the weather, Two Wheeled Tuesdays typically begins in mid-April and runs through November if the snow hasn't started to fly.
Culver's Restaurant is easily accessible from both freeway and city streets, located just south of Capitol Drive on 124th Street. Two Wheel Tuesdays in an informal event where hundreds of motorcyclists converge to show off their bikes, talk shop, and grab a scoop or two of custard. The event is normally kid-friendly, with kids even riding in on the backs of bikes or in elaborate side cars.
The crowd is as eclectic as the bikes they ride. Bike riders at Two Wheeled Tusedays can be retired couples, young people, hard-riding bikers, and even members of Christian motorcycle associations. This group of people come together for their love of all things motorcycle.
On a typical Tuesday, you can see vintage Harley Davidsons, Gold Wings, BMWs, Hondas, and an occasional bicyclist (it is two-wheeled Tuesday, after all). The atmosphere is light and casual, with riders of all ages and nationalities strolling through the large parking lot. Unlike most motorcycle rallies, there are no vendors setting up shop.
Culvers is a great place to grab a burger, fried cheese curds, or the "flavor of the day". For heartier fare, their Philly Cheesesteak sandwich is filling. They also offer a variety of salads for health-conscious visitors. People wanting more than just a scoop of ice cream can try their Concrete Mixers or sundaes, which are so rich that they are almost a meal in themselves (although a very sugary meal).
For a city entrenched in Harley motorcycle lore and history, Two Wheel Tuesdays is a great opportunity to meet with local motorcyclists. While you're inside browsing the custard offerings, check out the event pictures posted on the bulletin board to the right of the cash registers.
